re: #1 - This is a really good point. A section that covers all flavors of OBD is a much better idea than an overspecialized forum.
re: #2 & 3 - I see where you are coming from here, caution is clearly called for in making this decision.
re: #4 & 5 - Unfortunately this is probably the real kiss of death for this idea.
there is a section for every other car topic on here I noticed. so that's the only reason I brought it up. I don't think most people are going to hate on it like the car audio section. but hey I guess anything could happen at any time on the good ole forum. lol.
I think an OBD I/II tuning section is a great idea! There are a few people on here that can contribute a TON to a forum like that, and there are a few others that I know of that have tuned already and would like to get into it a bit more. (Myself included)
My main concern would be it turning out like car audio.

Also what about my L26? You suggest I go to clubgp instead?eff that place

I agree, I'd place it in the Specialty areas, much like the Convertible and Turbo GP sections.
I'd split it into pieces though...
OBD1
OBD2
(possibly) OBD 1.5
(possibly) Moving from OBD1 to OBD2...this would be useful, since our cars are getting so old, many might be considering swapping newer drivetrains into their cars...or, create a thread specifically for drivetrain swaps, which would catch folks moving in either direction. Much of that information already exists on the site, but is scattered throughout the entire site. It would be useful to have all the information in one place...rather than call it based on OBD version, it could simply be "Engine/Transmission Swaps"...that would also cover those interested in swapping not only engines, but transmissions, and wiring modifications necessary to support those swaps as well.

i'll drop some knowledge here:
for all intents and purposes, there is no such thing as OBD1.5 in a W-body. anyone now referring to the 93-95 3100 or 94-95 LQ1 or even the 94-95 3800 stuff as OBD1.5 is officially incorrect.
why?
all of the "1.5" stuff are actually OBD1 computers. they MIGHT have an OBD2 connector, but that is the only thing different about them compared to a slightly earlier OBD1 PCM. the 93-95 3100 ARE flash based units like OBD2 PCMs, however, they use the exact same communication protocall, data format, etc as almost every other OBD1 PCM that communicates at 8192 baud. the 94-95 LQ1 and 94-95 3800 PCMs also use the same comm protocall and also MIGHT use OBD2 connectors, but same situation: they're 100% OBD1 PCMs. the only way one could confuse them as being newer or in any way not OBD1 is by looking at the descriptions given to the DTCs. they follow the same pattern that OBD2 DTCs do, however, a name is just a name. the LQ1 and L82 setups don't use rear O2 sensors as mandated by OBD2 until 1996, i think the 3800s started using them in 1994? not 100% on that.
anyways, long story short, there ARE OBD1.5 PCMs out there.... but no W-body was ever equipped with them. the 95 3800 F-bodies come to mind, as do specifically equipped S10s.
if the section does get started, perhaps this post can be sticky #1?![]()

Makes sense, Robert...I guess what threw me is the DTC codes for my '95 LQ1 follow the P0XXX standard used by OBD2 cars.

yeah, i assume that's why most people consider the 94-95 LQ1 and 3800 stuff to be 1.5 and the 3100 PCM being flash PROM as 1.5...
the real "1.5" units(to me) communicate using OBD2 protocalls, though are not certified as OBD2, hence, 1.5.
looks like theres an interest in this. glad I am not the only one. thanks guys.
