New best times for the 3500 Lumina!

Well I did not make it out to the track in the fall so I went yesterday for the opening weekend! weather was a nice and sunny, 14*c and a bout a 15-20km tail wind!

here are some of the runs:

    15.447@92.45

    15.431@92.63

dropped the tire pressure a bit and let it cool for 1/2h:

    r/t............ -.122
    60'........... 2.332
    330.......... 6.388
    1/8........... 9.757
    mph.......... 73.32
    1000'........ 12.616

    1/4.......... 15.020
    mph......... 93.58

    The it ran a 15.265@92.22
    and a 15.204@93.67mph

only changes from last year are the 2.5" cat back (now full 2.5" maniflod back) and some 205/55r16 snow tires on some gp wheels!

sooooo close to a 14.999! might try again in a few weeks, if not maybe later next month. really need a tune and to get the headers on!

    15.2 on a 3.1 tune....

i don't suppose you at least monitor the O2 sensor (wideband or narrow)? you have to be seriously lean from about 3000 RPM and up.

Agreed, I was starting to lean out a bit with just the mods I have, before I got a tune. That's on a 3100 tune to boot.

you run on a MAF system though, which will recognize airflow changes. with speed-density, major mods requires adjusting the VE table to reflect that, otherwise the airflow isn't accounted for and significant enleanment happens.

15.0 on a 3.1 tune! going to put the WB in within the next week or two to see where its at. Ran it on 94 octane with a bottle of octane boost to help keep things a little safer.

3000rpm+ is where it starts pulling like mad! under 3000 it is a dog.

I will try to get the vids up tomorrow night!

You know what they say... Lean=Power

Unfortunately, Lean also equals the potential for a V6 grenade

how missed the bolded text, i'll never know.

94 octane will help keep away damage due to knock(that and it sounds like Sunoco, which i've had nothing but excellent results with), but cylinder temps are still going to be sky-high due to the lean AFR. and those bottles of octane booster are a joke. "8 point" bottles in actuality mean a .8 increase in octane. 3000 is where the factory UIM/LIM starts to come alive, but for the same reason, it's why it also starts leaning out there.

this is true. if you have an engine design that can run stoich ratios at WOT, you can do some impressive things, but that generates a lot of heat in a very small amount of time, which gets transfered to the pistons, heads and head gaskets. if you're lucky, the head gaskets pop before the pistons do.

I've seen it happen the track...friend of mine races karts, and the leaner he runs, he faster he is. Unfortunately, he's melted a few pistons that way by forgetting to check his EGTs.
