car bogs down when first start

i have a 3.1 engine.... when i start the car it starts fine sounds fine... if i give it gas in park the idle drops then it revs.... when i put the car in reverse and slowly give it gas it will stall nearly every time.... when i put it in drive and slowly give it gas it stalls occasionaly but usually just drops down and then goes.... right above my exhaust outlet on the bumper there is also a black area from the exhaust... im not sure if this relates or not..... it also doesnt seem like all the power is there.... i just bought the car last week so i dont know much about it yet... iv been told it could be the choke....... it only dogs when its just started after its been going for alittle while it doesnt do it........ but what is wierd is i can be driving the car for say 30 minutes, use reverse just fine, drive just fine. but then i can shut it off.... start it 5 minutes later and it will stall.... but its still warm?? please help

Check the O2 sensor...it could be dead or going. That could be the solution to the stalling problem. Also, the car might need a tune up (black residue on bumper). If it's burning oil consistently it could do that too...How much mileage is on the car?

Well, first of all, there is no choke. Secondly, it could be a number of things. O2 is a good thought, TPS and IAC are other probable causes

Just like what Robby said, clean the IAC.

I would go ahead and get SEA FOAM MOTOR TREATMENT for Gas Engine Applications.

Cold weather really shows a lot of problem with our cars due to carbon buildup in the engine.
