    My 93 Base Project

Carrying over from the introductions section, i figured it was better to move the project information here.

My new 93 Base started its life here in the same county i live. And from the carfax report, has not been registered outside of the county since new. I am the third owner and being the car is a well equipped base model, i just couldnt keep my hands off it. It has alot of the same options that the typical Euro, minus the base gauges and Euro appointments.

Heres some pics the day after i got the car and up on ramps to clean off all the oil build up from the oil pump drive o-ring leaking.

So far, things i have been able to get accomplished is:

-Thorough cleaning of the engine bay
-Replace the oil pump drive o-ring
-Replace the front seats with bucket seats from a Euro
-Converted to floor shifter and console
    -Tinted the windows
-Chopped the bottom of the air box open
-Replaced blue steering wheel with black wheel from a 94 Z34

The seats when i got the car were okay, but the previous owner broke off the back rest lever so you were stuck sitting in an upraight position. It was a power seat, which was kinda nice, but i hate power seats anyways. Since the interior is blue and thats a hard interior color to come upon in the yards, i decided to go with a two-tone interior and get the grey seats i found at the yard. So far, between the console, and seats im liking the change. I dont have the pics loaded up on the web yet but i should have some more pics going this afternoon after i get off work.

I am still working on getting the floor shifter conversion however. I have the donor console (92 Euro) modded and installed, and the shifter cable hooked up and working great. I have to figure out how im gonna get the shift lock working and find a shift plate that has the indicators still on it, this one fell apart when i took the console out.

I also have the Euro fender trim, full cluster and dash trim to still install. Although, i have plans to install the Z34 or Razzi kit on this car, im not sure the fender trims will fit with the kit or not. I do have intentions to install a Z34 hood and a clean decklid with a Z34 spoiler that i picked up a while back. Im not sure what im going to do with the grill yet, i may leave it alone, i may put a Z34 on, im still undecided. Lastly, i will DEFINETLY change out the wheels. I cannot stand the stock steelies. Im keeping my eyes open for a set of Lumina LTZ/Monte LS/Z34 wheels for it, not the machined faced ones, but the ones with the rounded spokes and powder coated that greyish-tan color.

I'll have more pics up this afternoon, hopefully

Aight, little update that i promised with pics...

Heres a couple pics before i got the window tint done, but after changing out the mirrors. If you saw in the pics higher up the mirrors were all jacked when i got the car. One was busted off completely and the other glued back together. So i got some from the yard (the same Euro i keep taking parts off of) and installed them so it was normal again. I do still have to get some replacement window trim to i can get the rest of the glue off the current trim.

A few engine shots, yes, i did clean the crap out of it, and for the most part, im happy with it I do have an intake to install, just need to stop being lazy about getting installed.

Looks clean. Been a while since I've seen one of these that doesn't have rust bubbling up from every panel.

On the door panels, i have the Euro grey plastics installed, looks alot better than the fake wood grain the car came stock with

I also have the "Euro" trim plate above the glove box installed. As stated in a previous post, only wood grain appointments to install is the vent/radio trim plate. The donor car had its all butchered up.

Now, i know the seats are dirty, and the console too, i have a friend that works for Stanley Steemer thats gonna let me borrow his van one day so i can clean the crap out of the inside of the car. im just waiting on another carpet, since i cut mine up trying to figure out how to make the 92 console fit. Again, im happy with the color scheme i have going on.

Damn you did a good job on that motor, looks nearly new!

Oh and to get that dirt off your seats I learned this trick... it doesnt work all the time, but other times it works like a magic eraser. Just spray some windex on the dirty spots, let it sit for about 15-30 seconds, and dab/wipe it up. I had a bunch of dirt on the seats in my car and it did a good job of getting it out.

I do have intentions of getting a grey back seat too, i just didnt want to grab the one from the donor car cause it has glass all over it, and you never even really get the pieces all out. And for a car that will have a child in it, i want zero glass on the seat to start.

And finally for now, here is the pics of the car with the tinted windows. I have 15% metalized on all windows and a 5% strip across the top the windshield. It does a great job keeping the heat out, not to mention, looks 1000X better than non tinted windows.

Next step, struts, wheels, and hopefully, a new deck lid with the Z34 spoiler.

Thanks guys Im hoping i can have all this done before the baby comes. I really dont want to do any car mods after he is born.

I did forget to mention that i changed the belt, and both torque struts this afternoon. Im hoping to get the passenger side motor mount changed this weekend. Hopefully it wont take too long, i havent done one on a W-body before, doesnt look to bad, but still havent done one.

That is cool, we are planning the same mods for our cars. So far for the 90 I have a Z34 hood/decklid, a set of machined Z34 wheels, and front and rear bumpers from a Z34. Still debating whether or not I'm going to use the bumpers or not. You have a much more solid car than I. I have to replace the rear quarters and front fenders (have both off of a 54k Z34 that was cash for clunker'ed).

Good progress. I'll keep checking back.

Scooby, just saw your posts inbetween mine lol. I will try the windex idea, see what i can do, but i have access to steam cleaning equipment. However, it may be a lil bit before i use it, so i will try the windex on the really bad spots

And a small update, since i discovered the car has a newer belt tentioner, i decided to return it and exchange for a set of plugs and wires. After seeing the wires still say delco and have all the cylinder numbers on them, i think its time to get them things out of there! I cant wait to see what the plugs look like...

If I were to two tone a blue lumina interior, I'd try to get the seats out of a gray cutlass supreme, but whats purchased is purchased. I also went so far as to purchase the Euro trim for my car, as I was going to go the euro-clone route, but kept the wood grain for a while till i painted all the woodgrain black. Police recaros really set my car off, especially since they matched the blue interior.

I'd recommend finding a cheap set of alloys and blacking out the chrome on the bump strip with electrical tape. It should look good with your tint.

Blackout the silver strip... I like that idea.

im actually thinkin about removing the strips. I saw that one dude car that he converted to look like a Z34 and repainted it a simular color to mine and it looked hot without the strips. Im also planning on doing a full debadging. For the wheels, like i had mentioned in an above post, i would like to go with the Monte LS/LTZ wheels, the rounded faced 5spoke wheels.
