How long should it take to remove auto trans to diagnose problem?

I recently brought my car, 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP, to a dealership with a transmission issue. I have a warranty that is covering the majority of the work. However they had to send an adjuster out to the dealership to verify that work did indeed have to be done and decide how much they would cover. The issue is the dealership told me I will have to cover 10.5 hours of diagnosis time, the time it takes to pull out the trans so the adjuster can look at the issue. I spoke with the warranty people to ask if they can pick up some of that cost. They explained to me that the majority of the work is being covered and there is no way it should take 10.5 hours to pull out the transmission for the adjuster and the dealership is completely overcharging me for hours of labor that is not actually happening or is already covered. Feels like someone is screwing me and I need some help to understand how long this type of job should take?

The dealership is overcharging you. Start there.

Generally what the dealer does is ask for your "permission" and ok to cover diag cost in case your warranty doesn't
cover the actual repair. If warranty covers it, then you should only have to pay your deductible and possible misc,
charges (like fluid, cleaner, etc.) IF the warranty doesn't cover these items.
If your warranty covers the repair and the dealer still wants all that labor paid, I'd be screaming my ass off or
calling the BBB, etc.

That's exactly what they are doing. They want you to be aware that if for SOME reason, once the transmission is out, the warranty company decided they won't cover the repair for whatever BS reason, that you agree to pay them what they're owed.

Happened at my shop before, had a Mini Cooper with a blown trans, extended warranty needed to "inspect" the trans once it was out. They decided not to cover it, and we had to tell the customer he was on the hook for the labor to R&R the trans. He was not happy.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it. Spoke with the dealership again and they gave me some more specific data.

Diag time to remove trans pan, pressure test lines, remove and open up the trans, disassemble and diag = 10.5 hours

Does this add up?

I don't think it would require that much time to "figure out" what exactly is wrong. Usually, the warranty company requires the
trans be pulled and torn down for an inspector (who works for the warranty company) to look at it before they will warranty
the repair.
That amount of time is probably correct "book time" to do all that. Can't imagine it would take that long.

+1 it's probably correct book time but I could probably drop the trans in my driveway by myself and have it back up there in half of that time. The big part of the quote is the transaxle disassembly/reassembly time so they can show the warranty dude why they need to honor the warranty.
