    Ran the GTP finally

Well since I'm going to have to miss the last autocross, I finally decided I'd run the GTP like I've been wanting to do for the last 3.5 years I've owned it. Made 5 runs.

    1996 GTP. LQ1, 4T60-E, 200,000 miles.

Quick rundown of the engine mods:
    CAI
    Magnflow mufflers
    FFP underdrive
    FFP dogbone
I left WOT shift point set at 6800 RPM

    Best ET:
    15.97 @ 87.23
    60 foot: 2.306
    1/8: 10.30
    1000 ft: 13.38

    Best MPH:
    16.10 @ 88.29
    60 foot: 2.335
    1/8: 10.39
    1000 ft: 13.51

Obviously that's pretty slow ET and MPH, but wasn't out of line of what I expected. I would've liked lower or mid 15s, but honestly thought maybe I wouldn't even get into the 15's. I've never been to the dragstrip before and really don't know what to make of the 60 foot, 1/8 mile, 1000ft times. Pretty inline for what this car is?

Oh and Paul, if you read this, do you remember what the car ran back when you had it almost 100,000 miles ago? I'm kind of curious if and how much it's slowed down over all these miles.

Not a bad run for what it is, but needs moar boost.
this IS a General Motors product and the general rule is that nothing should make actual sense.

Probably, but I don't have the skills to custom turbo something. I'd love to do an N/A build anyway.

Is it capable?!?!?! 15.9 was my time as well and wasn't that vert of yours like mint and low miles?!?!?! Hell, I was getting spin at 1800 RPM on my 140 treadwear autocross tires, I probably should have dropped pressure down though as they were still set for autocrossing.

To be honest, you're mostly stock so it's not too bad of a run. If you could get a better launch then you will see mid 15's pretty easily.

It's a lot of fun though isn't it? Another thing that will help is by upgrading your CAI to a turbo

What kind of 60 foots are you getting?

As I said, I don't know how to make a custom turbo setup. What I would like to do someday is a good N/A build:

Port and polished heads, manis, intake, TB, MAF, etc.
Higher compression / good multiangle valve job
    The +6/-6 timing
    Hypereutectic pistons
Get a good tune on it. I have a DHP, but I don't know how to tune. I just mess around with shift points, torque (mis)management, and that kind of stuff. Not fueling or spark timing.

I haven't ran my Monte at the track after the Novi install, but when I was NA, I could only get a 2.20 60'. That was on a set of old all seasons. Now it's probably going to be a worse 60' because I'm still running the same tires, and now they're nearly bald, lol.

The good thing about your GTP is that it's a 96, so it's OBD-II. Because of that, I would go to clubgp's classifieds section and buy a used Powertuner from someone (usually around $300) and play around with your PCM's tune. It'll take time to learn, but it'll be worth it in the end.

If you plan on staying NA, I would expect you to be able to run a mid to high 14 and by then you'll have done a lot of work. LQ1's have TONS of potential, but it would require a turbo build with four new cams $$$. Good luck on the modding though. It's very addictive and very fun.

Do not do the cam timing, it sounds terrible. Time is practically spot on for the miles and stuff.

I'd like to play around with it at least as easy as it is. If you did it, do you have the adjustable tool?

my vert had 83k miles on it, and the track i go to has awesome prep so that could be why i got it that low, but i would have to think that with good track prep and a good DA you could get mid 15s as my vert was around 4500 lbs with me driving it. it also took me some time to get that run the first time i went to the track i couldnt get below a 16.3

not a bad time at all. I ran a 15.9x with my series1 3800 before I swapped so I'd think you'd have some room for a better run as well. I can't wait to get on the track this spring myself

13.58sec at 103MPH in the 1/4 on street tires. Shooting for 12's by next season in 2012.... Mods are in the "garage" so check it out!
