Exclamation 2012 W-Body Nats - Location vetting thread

Seeings as there has been much discussion about a new location for our event(s) and before we go with any one location, I think its only fair to get the people who come and are most likely to come involved in vetting possible cities for our event. Popular decision seems to have pushed a drive for this to be decided upon sooner then later.

As it stands this only applies to the first event of 2012, from there we will decide if we want to return or find another place.

This thread is serious business so read it once, then read it again

To avoid butthurt, and drama I will conduct this as such...

    What we need from you.
    Describe potential locations like so:

    • State/Providence, City
    • Specific location(s) (optional)
    • Why this this place is ideal for the meet
    • Why this place owns
    • average hotel/motel price/locations (optional)
    • What things there might be to do in the general vicinity of it
    • level of local coordination you may be willing to do (optional)

That is ALL that is to be posted. NO Discussion, No Drama.

If more then one person has the same city in mind and wants to add to what someone else wrote, That will be okay, make a post detailing your own reasons.
If you have NO intention on attending a meet you need not post.

This is not the end all be all planning thread, we are just choosing the location. Once that is chosen all the details can be worked out.

I will keep this open for a few days, maybe a week so everyone can weigh in, From there I will take the locations and add a Poll to either this thread or a new one. Location with the most votes wins.

Bonus Banning Option: ANYONE who takes this thread off topic WILL be disallowed from posting for a week. Taking this thread off topic can be as easy as making a post that is not describing a location, agree/disagreeing with a location idea, commenting on how people smell there. Keep your opinions on X location to yourselves, That is why we are going to vote on this.

So all that said, lets see what you got.

you all know my vote and the offer stands to take care of everything

    Toledo/Oregon, OHIO

    Location:http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Oregon...src=6&t=h&z=18

Main corridor of highways leading in 75 for North and South routes and it is connecting to the Ohio turnpike to go to West to IL or East to PA

    Hotel info

    http://www.hiexpress.com/hotels/us/e...or/hoteldetail

They have allot already filling up so, room rates would be $84.95 a night.... now before everyone gets pissed about the price let me tell you what we would get

    1. OUR OWN PARKING LOT (that meaning a seperate parking lot that no one else would be in but us) the parking lot directly behind the hotel is owned by the hotel she said on the phone that that is where the put car clubs when they stay.
    2. Rooms facing the said parking lot with our cars in it and we could see them from our rooms all day and night
    3. Full FREE hot breakfast including pancakes and sausage
    4. Attached to the parking lot is http://yeehas.com/ bar and grill this is a great bar with good food and lots of fun (prices for everyone)
    5. Attached to the parking lot is a State Liqueur Agency http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=...60289032654307
    6. Maumee Bay State Park (15 mins away) - This is not your average park it sits on Lake Erie and is absolutely perfect for this type of get together, They have HUGE parking lots that would be suitable for parking our cars however we want for pictures and what have you, they also have the typical things like small picnic shelters on the beach, grills ... etc http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/par...4/Default.aspx
    7. Many other great picture opportunities around Toledo with city scape
    8. There are also many other things within minutes of the area including more bars and restaurants, bowling, comedy clubs, wal-mart...etc
    9. Junk yards are great and easy to get to and they actually let you walk the yard and pull it yourself (if you want a list of yards just ask I will throw it up here) and many of them have allot of 1st gens
    10. Toledo is very central to "Most" members (someone is always going to get screwed on the location)
    11. There is a Bob Evans 2 blocks from the hotel http://maps.google.com/maps?q=bob+ev...src=6&t=h&z=17
    12. I will also offer to bring my BBQ grill to the park (since I am close) so we can have a nice grill out!
    13. Tony Packos! http://tonypacko.com/
    14. Milan or Norwalk Drag strips are within 45 minutes http://summitmotorsportspark.com/ and http://www.milandragway.com

    20. Like Hockey? Toledo Walleye http://www.toledowalleye.com/
    21. Funny Bone Comedy Club http://www.funnybonefatfishtoledo.com/

Of course some of these things are depending on when we would have the meet, they all offer group deals though

The amenities and less drive time for some should by far make up for $30-$40 in a room (at $3.50+ a gallon of gas)

Currently 5 other ClubGP members that are in for Toledo and I know of 2-3 people that are not on either forum that would make it

    I'll co-sign Toldeo

....fwiw: the Milan Dragway is closer to Toledo than the one we have been going to is to Dayton so that is an option too depending on their schedule....and Toledo is home to Tony Packos

I'll put in a vote for one meet this year in Dayton, just because I've gotten so much positive feedback on the park, the track, etc. I am in the process of finding a hotel that is better suited for us, and if I am running the meet, I will make DAMN sure there is no crap going on like at RRI. I hated seeing people being hassled by cops and I'm not going to let that happen again, it's giving the meet venue a bad name.

Folks have been here before, we've got plenty of shit around to do, the Air Force museum, bowling, lots of nice parks, a track within an hour from the park, a little long of a drive I know, but part of the fun of a meet is the convoy!

Ever since I set foot on Presque-Isle in Erie, I've understood why some CGP events are held there.

I'm going to put my vote in for Erie, the peninsula is quite wonderful, there's a casino and park right there. The park itself is just huge, speed limits on the actual peninsula are low enough where we can have a convoy with some walking recording it! Beach parking, swimming, sunset. I find that these meets are a little hard on the gut, I would love to break out the inline skates on the peninsula or a bicycle or just run around a little, beach volleyball, etc! The thing is the next closest thing to a massive island!

Have a look at the map:

    http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=presque...src=6&t=h&z=12

Restaurants galore, shopping is good (no sales tax on clothing). Many of us are familiar with the area.

Erie meets have done well (attendance wise) in the winter. Putting something in the East (ideally in the fall) since the western members tend to come during the spring, I think to could help increase our numbers.

Central - No, but it is central to those whom have been attending events in the past. Big Woodies' Fireworks and Karate Supplies stores (there's actually two of them!!)

If I had a choice, Erie would be my second choice. My first choice would be some crazy-ass Blueridge Parkway meet, but I'm going to assume, that that's an unreasonable expectation for many to want to run the length of the parkway and stop all over to take pictures, plus if the weather gets bad the whole meet can just go in the trash!

This is an excellent website with all sorts of stuffs on what the peninsula has to offer, there's a top 10 including kayaking, trails, some sort of environmental center . . . . and pictures for everything, although I don't have a huge interest (I'd take some with me if I found some beach glass), but I like their description below:

    9. Hunt for beach glass

Looking for beach glass is a lot like golf: you will either enjoy it and do it all the time or think it's boring and never understand how people spend hours doing it. Beach glass is formed from bottles or other glass that was dumped into the lake. Over the years, these fragments were tumbled and shifted around the lake before washing up on shore as frosted nuggets of awesomeness. If you enjoy looking for the needle in a haystack, you will likely enjoy the hunt for beach glass. Start a collection and see if you can find some red, blue or even purple pieces; the brighter the color, the more rare the glass. Several stores around Erie transform beach glass into wearable jewelry or other souvenirs. So if you don't want to find it yourself, you can always buy some on your way out of town.

This is the link to the park that's basically on the mainland right where the peninsula starts:

It's not really too hype, but if you want to bring the kids along or we have the urge to all hop on some sort of log ride, why the heck not??

Probably going to close this up and start the polling by the end of the week. Any people with places in mind, now is the time to put them out there.
