Smile My 1989 Cutlass Supreme "Rocket Rod 1" Which is a work in progress...

Right on New Years of 2010, I bought a 1989 Cutlass Supreme with only 35000 miles on it. I know that's nearly impossible, but, an old lady had owned it who was the first owner, then a guy bought it from her.. and later hit a parked car with it. Here are the pictures of it when I first bought it and now....

    Then:

    PHTO0003.jpgPHTO0002.jpgPHTO0004.jpgPHTO0005.jpgPHTO0009.jpgPHTO0012.jpgPHTO0011.jpg

    Now:

    PHTO0027.jpgPHTO0025.jpgPHTO0008.jpg
    PHTO0021.jpgPHTO0024.jpgPHTO0020.jpg
    PHTO0022.jpgPHTO0023.jpgPHTO0028.jpg
    PHTO0029.jpgPHTO0030.jpgPHTO0006.jpg
    PHTO0003.jpg

I only paid $500 for the car. Since the first pics I've done the following:

    1. Replaced the coil pack, both engine strut mounts (dog bones), Passenger side front strut rubber mount.
    2. Replaced the battery.
    3. Added the Driver Information System.
    4. Changed head unit to a Pontiac - Delco/Delphi AM/FM RDS CD/MP3/CD Changer Control (Yes, it is possible, pics later in post).
    5. Added of the center dash lower console to house the newer radio.
    6. Updated coolant to Dex Cool.
    7. Regular maintainence like oil and filter, drive belt, fuel filter, brakes, etc.
    8. Changed booster amplifier to Delco/Delphi 9 channel Monsoon amplifier along with the Delco/Delphi Bass Gain Amp and wired it to some 6X9 woofers and installed then in the rear seats.
    9. Installed a Camero/Firebird/Bonneville Retained Accessory Power Module (Note; for driver's side door only deactivation, use chime module wire).
    10. Replaced and retrofitted A/C compressor and condensor and charged system.
    11. Installed a DRL and Auto Lamp Control Module from a 1996 Buick Regal. (black plastic box module and dark purple/burgandy or black metal heatsink module to the left of the steering column and BCM inside dash). Details here : http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php...32#post1052632
    12. Installed a 3 way cigar lighter outlet.
    13. Installed a 10 disc MP3 CD changer.

    Changes in progress:

    1. Replacing the front struts.
    2. Repair or replacement of the headliner.

    Changes to come:

    1. Replacement of the hood and both front fenders. Anyone out there got these available?
    2. Replacement of front fascia background assembly (black fiberglass headlamp and grill holder).
    3. Replace grills with black grills.
    4. Repainting of the spots where it has peeled and roof.
    5. Addition of wide black racing stripes from grills to rear.
    6. Replacement of tie rods (both sides, both outer and inner).
    7. Replacement of the tires.
    8. License plate changed to vanity plate "RKTROD1".

    Wishlist:

    1. Heads-Up display with dash-top and Driver Info System to Heads-Up adapter/splitter cable.
    2. Grand Prix STE turbo charger (maybe).

    Undecided to add or do:

    1. Fog lamps.
    2. Complete sand and repaint into phased 2 tone paint job. (from bottom to top: leave gray trim plates with midnight blue above them, then faded silver in between, into sky blue on top.)

And that's my Cutlass Supreme. If anyone wants to help me with it or has suggestions, please feel free to contact me. For the most part, I am restoring this car and addidng and updating features along the way. I want the car to look and function well, but not overly do it.

Interesting place to put the DIS. That car has really low miles. I'm pretty surprised.

Not saying its in terrible shape, but I dont understand how cars with such low miles get in that bad of condition. Good to see you're at least fixing it up though.

Looks like you grabbed yourself a deal. That thing will last you a LONG time. Very surprising to see digital climate control, steering wheel controls and luggage rack on an otherwise base Cutlass. Then again GM has done some weirder stuff...
this IS a General Motors product and the general rule is that nothing should make actual sense.

Dude, seriously get the proper lower dash and put the DIC where it goes. The radio can be made to fit in the correct spot if your not scared to do some plastic work and such.

Because, dude, seriously, I don't wanna chop up or have to chop into my dashboard all that much, plus, the DIC displays more relevant info than the radio pertaining to the vehicle's operation. I also plan on getting that center console part to better house the radio. Now, that I will have to cut into and do some work with a Dremel tool and plastic putty, but, it's less work than chopping up the dash. I also plan to better house the DIC as well and fix that up as I go. As stated above "a work in progress."

Hope I answered you question for you.

    Thank you,

    Starflare5.

I had doubts about old Ws being to old and not worth it to mod/fix up, but with this low mileage, I know I would. I love the digital cluster, wish I could put one in my Lumina.
