Here in Huntsville we have a lot of people that bench race on another forum. We all got together and had what we call the King of the street (KOTS) racing. We have time slots set up and you run Pro Tree heads-up style.
Well this was my first trip down the track in probably 15 years or more. I have never left on a Pro Tree but I thought I knew enough. My first pass was by myself since the track was having some difficulties with the other lane. I rolled through the water, clicked off the traction control, set the ebrake and heated the tires up just a touch. When it started dragging the rear wheels I let off. Pulled up to the tree and started to raise the RPMS while holding the brake. I left around 2200 RPM with no boost built. 9.66 with a .320 tree time. Boo on the tree time but kinda stoked on the final time, plus side no tire slip.
One lane being down most of the day really backed up the staging lanes. The next time down the track was for real in my KOTS class. I pulled up to the water box, traction control off, turned the tires over, rolled up a little and then tried to heat the tires up. I could not get tires to spin at all. The Mustang beat me to the staging lights. I rolled up and started bringing the RPMs up but dang the light flashed and off we went. I don't know what RPM I left at but the chase was on for the full 1/8. I knew he had me going do the track but I actually started pulling up closer at the big end. He crossed the line first and that was that.
Driver error on Protree cause the Mustang to win only. My car was faster in the 1/8 and my reaction time killed it.
Learning from this time to the track, when the car won't spin the tires dummy the track will hold it for whatever I throw on it. I should have rolled to the line and burried the throttle while holding the brake and let it boost before the tree flashed.
Since this run, I have cleaned the T body, cleaned the upper intake with Seafoam and changed the plugs. I plan on changign the fuel filter next week and hope to make another pass in about 3 weeks. Wondering if anything I have done will improve my times down the track.
