    Update - 06/04/10

Grabbed a harness from a 99 Monte Carlo L36 at the yard today. Unfortunatly it had some plugs cut. Luckily found a 98 Lumina L36 with an intact harness with a corroded and fuxored hacked wiring fuse/relay box. I snagged all the connectors/pigtails from the 98 Lumi to repair the 99 MC harness. Not worried about repairing some of the pigtails, all connections will be soldered, shrinkwrapped, covered with electrical tape for a clean and reliable connection. I have to do rewiring to this anyway.

Harness connectors are tagged for what they go to so I dont forget. Havent messed with 3800 wiring near as much as 3x00.

Plans for my day off next week are to hit up the Cleveland pullaparts (both if neccessary) and get the L67 PCM and PCM box, the boost solenoid wiring to the PCM that I need to add and I think I may need another item (I think the L67 MAP sensor wiring) which I will know for positive once I look at a L67.

Im pretty sure im gonna look for a 97 Regal or GP PCM (should give me less issues with Anti-Theft although Im pretty sure 98-99 is the same, will verify later).

Also intend to find a 96 Regal L36 and get the interior dash harness, although im pretty sure a 96 Regal L82 harness will do as well. This will make my life easier with power distribution and the DLC. If I can get all that, then I can lay everything out on the garage floor, get the wiring dealt with, and power everything up to make sure I have communication with the PCM at the DLC and can read sensor data. Its easier to work out wiring issues before the harness goes in the car

I will have an update in the next two days with some pics on the harness

Not sure where I remembered hearing that 97 PCMs were more difficult to tune for some reason?

GN/X would be better... but to be true, it would need a turbo...

I'm running 97 lumina 3100 pcms and tuned them without issues. However I believe 98 adds a few more things which makes them better. I'll dig into that tonight. Just so there is no confusion, 3100 pcms are 3800 based and the tuning maps I get with hp tuners are pretty identical

Alright cool. I remember D saying something about that when we ran across that 97 GTP in the yard with a 3.5 pulley on the SC. Something about everything being different with 97-98's and to avoid them.

Mainly just 97's. Some early 98's are that way too.

This mainly applies to the 2nd Gen W's. 1.5 Gen's should be ok

The differences were the engine mechaical in 97 compared to 98 on L67s.

Ill check out the difference between 97,98,99 GTP PCMs. These are the most common to find in the yard and will give me the least issues with Security.

Andrei, one thing I do need to know, is if your car has the Passlock crap?? If you do have Security on it it should be straight forward, if you dont, then the PCM will need to be reflashed to disable the Security crap, otherwise the car wont start.

I printed off wiring diagrams galore at work today. Prolly close to 100 pages or so. Im gonna log into Identifix tonight to see the wiring diagrams thrrough there (they show diagrams straight from GM)

How do I determine if it has the Passlock crap? If by that you mean the stupid chip on the key that has to work in a certain way for the car to start, then yes, I have that. Otherwise, I don't know.

Ok, so yeah, you have the passlock. I looked into it, the PCM uses the same fuel enable signal so there wont be any issues.

Went to Autozone this evening. Had to pick up some solder, shrink wrap, electical tape, and wire loom, so I should be good to go on stuff to do the harness.

After looking at the wiring of the PCMs and such, I decided to use a 99 GTP PCM as it looks to need less repinning. The easiest would be to use the 99 MC L36 PCM (no repinning) and tune it for boost, but im not sure if it has the capability of S/C boost control. Not to mention the GTP will run the car no issues and no tuning needed.

Tonight Im gonna continue to go over the wiring diagrams and start plotting out what I need to rewire and repin.. Quad paper FTW!

Tuesday plans are go to pullapart, get the PCM, and remainder of wiring I need and prolly snag some sensors to use as dummies for testing.

You at all worried about your 21xK mile bottom end can't handle it? I'm just curious.
