Tubular Front Control Arms- 1st gen

    I am starting fresh here.

The last topic was all littered with different ideas being thrown back and forth all over the place, but this is for a tubular STEEL control arm for 1st gen W's.

These will be made for 1st gen W's with the stock location for the ball joint. They will have heim joints at the end for adjustment, no poly bushings.

What will these do? These will be lighter, stronger and a solid steel arm with no rubber.

If you are interested in these the price will be $350 for the pair Powdercoated Black. I will be making a set for my car in the next month or so.

PLease put your name down if truly interested.

Fresh, these will be Tubular Steel. The other design was billet aluminum.

I knocked these out for you guys. I know I have been slacking on the W's so I hope this makes up for it.

Re: Tubular Front Control Arms- 1st gen

How much would these actually cost in the end?

Do the heim joints (I can't see them or imagine how they would work), allow us to alleviate some of the problems with wheel angle when the spring is compressed on lowered suspensions?

How much stronger are they than stock when considering the kinds of loads they could experience on our cars? That amount of weight savings seems negligible even as unsprung weight so I'm trying to figure out what else they're good for.

I thought the set you were making for your car would was going to be the plate aluminum ones. Are you making these for your car just for testing?

Would you mind changing the title of this thread? These arms aren't tubular.

So if what Mark posted isn't tubular, then these certainly are not either.

Which means if they aren't tubular, you aren't saving much weight. 1.1lb on each side is nothing considering some of that weight is sprung by way of attachment to the subframe. I don't see these shaving off more than 3/4 of actual unsprung weight (and that's being extremely generous) per side. So $350 to save 2.2lb and have solid mounts instead of rubber or poly bushings.

Would the mounts for the arms at least have provisions to be easily greasable?

Those might not be, but these are:

The arms in that link save you 2.75lb per side over the stock arms, because they're tubular.

Wow, yes these are tubular. The amount of weight that you save if pretty good actually. These are much stonger than factory, so you wont get any wheel hop or any deflection when they are under stress.
