how to properly launch a CS 3100

    Hey there,

So I finally raced a buddy of mine who has a 97 Maxima, 3.0l, and 220hp, 190ft torque, and off the line he was a car length ahead of me. I know the first run we did he was quite ahead due to my slow reaction time to him guiding when to start. Something I noticed is that he goes, he flies off the line, I'm able to keep up on his rear bumper until around 70-80 km then he pulls away. We stopped around that speed. My CS is auto, 3100, with around 196k km, and bone stock. His Max has like 102k km.

One thing to note is that he was on winter tires and I'm still on all seasons, his would squeal a lot and move, while I span a little. Here in Canada its about 2-3 degrees celsius at night. Could the tires have a big impact? Could launching the car help, as in giving enough throttle to get off the line at 3k rpm then WOT once the car is going to minimize wheelspin? I was giving it WOT off the bat. I know I'm not going to win, but just need some ideas on how to improve launches or not!

    Thank you

    spinning is bad, m'kay?

it usually takes a freak of a 3100(stock anyways) to get the tires spinning in a W, assuming the tires are any good...

that being said, i have no problem getting the MC up to ~30MPH before it catches anyway...

Don't, its not a race car and its slow anyways.

don't get too upset.....There is a better chance of having Anthony swinging by my house in his supercharged silverado towing his GTO tonight then there is of this story being true.

The best way to launch your car would probably be by holding the brakes, revving the car up to 2k rpms and then let go of the brakes and floor it right away. You probably don't have to worry about tire spin with the 3100 in it (I know, I use to own a 95 Monte LS with the 3100). Otherwise, it's time for you to do a 3400 swap or something.

Braketorquing? I thought it was called powerbraking?

Thats how I launch, 2400 rpms gives me just a little bit of wheel spin.

Take his advice. If you want the car to last, that is.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's just that, for me, if the engine or trans goes, the car most likely will as well. Of course, it depends on the car, but that's why I worded it that way.

No one else is being serious.

Ok put your car in 1st, Set the e-break and Floor it.

Tires are hot, now pull up to the line rev a few times.. then put the car in R for Race.. then when the 3ed honk, or light tuns green put it to the floor, for a sure win!
