    Major fail. 911 Turbo (997)

I (failed to) race today against a 911 Turbo (997).

A new 997 generation Turbo got behind me in the metro area of the city and was following behind me for several miles on the highway out of the city on my way home from work, when I got off the highway at my exit he followed me off. I then made my last turn onto a two lane road towards my hometown, he turns too and I see him swing out in the other lane suddenly moving up fast. So I floored it too, at which point the trans failed to find any of its four gears and just clunked around until I let off. Not that I expected anything less than to be dusted anyways.

The car was impressive though to say the least. I knew it was a 911 but didn't realize it was a turbo until it went flying by and I saw the badge on the back. He just kept on the thing too. He was doing at least 100 mph for the next mile or so, although I'd guess he was actually going even faster than 100. He was a spec when I saw him get back on the highway. It was impressive to say the least. Makes me want to just once be able to drive a Ferrari or Turbo or Z06/ZR1 or something.

This was on westbound Kellogg/US54. He first got behind me probably around Maize road in the heavy traffic. He stayed behind me all the way to Goddard, we got past Goddard where they finally let you go 70 mph on 54 and the traffic thins out, so I expected him to quit following and finally go by the fast moving Grand Prix on his way, but he stayed behind me. I turn off at 263rd street and immediately make another turn towards my town. That's when he decided to open it up.

Hell I don't know (and it would've been second not first since it was at speed), I don't have race driver instincts. I saw the Turbo making a go of it and suddenly there was that little voice that says FLOOR IT! So I did.

Even if you did jam it into first, the computer would not let it go into first.

I was under the impression that the computer would not let an AT downshift into a gear that is going to overrev the engine; I did a WOT run with my gear selector in (1), and when I hit the rev limiter at 6k my transmission shifted to second gear automatically, even though the selector was in (1).

normal, there is a setting in the tune that determines what speed it will upshift even with the selector in 1st, but it only does it for the 1-2 shift, it will bounce off the limiter all day in any other gear.

    I turn 6030 at 106mph in 2nd gear. That's a 215/60R16 tire with a 2.93FDR.

Wow, I did a WOT run in 2nd to the rev limiter, and according to my speedo I was only able to squeeze about 85mph out of 2nd.

depending on your tires, that's perfectly normal...
