Nevermind mark..
I decided that I would try a wild goose chase for different strut cartridges that would work. I remember when I was with Autozone they stocked like 6 different ones. So I took the mounts there and started comparing. Found one that fit the mount nice and the body and rod length were appx the same as the stock Gen 1 strut. The body diameter was obviously smaller though.
I figured why not, ill buy it and the guy said to return it if it wont work and we will try ordering a few others to see if they would work.
I get home, slap it in the housing and realize its loose in there. Low and behold, in the new struts hardware kit is a centering collar. WORKS PERFECT!!! What luck!!!!
As of yet, I dont know the true application for this cartridge, but I know where its gonna be used now
All I need to do is get a few smaller spacers for the mount (so the top mount nut doesnt hit the mount, but seats on the bearing) and prolly drill out the lower piece you sent me to the next size bigger so that will work.
So I will update this later. I need to get the spacers dealt with and see if I need a lower centering collar for the strut too (doesnt look I need to since the housing and the strut are both rounded at the bottom)

Ok. Found out the strut I got that will work actually goes to older VWs.. Who knew there would finally be a practical use for those pieces of scrap![]()

Well if it is 5/8 I will have to change the drawing, but thats bigger than my Konis. None the less I need to know.

I think I have Monday off. I will just ship you out a Gen 1 strut rod (Factory Struts just had the rod, seals, and valve, i.e. no body)Originally Posted by dohc v6
Im having huge problems trying to find a spacer to use between my tophats and the bearing, and the bearing to the nut.
I think im gonna order some ES bushings and highjack the sleeve from one and cut to length or try a Fastenal in this area.

Ok.. I just need to order a set of Energy Suspension flange bushings and highjack the inner sleeve and cut to the lengths I need to act as a spacer. Only $8 for the kit, so that'll save me a lot of time trying to track down something at hardware stores.
Mark, on the off chance that I cant get a proper fitting spacer (the ES kit should have the exact size though) what would be the turn around to get a set of mounts to fit the stock struts after you receive these ones back and a stock strut rod to go off of as reference??
Just wanting to know the worse case scenario.

And just another question.. I know im kinda rambling on here.
But the mounts I got use the Com9 bearing, which is a 9/16" ID. What size is the ID for Koni inserts???
If they are 1/2" (would just use the reducer you sent to me with the mounts) or 9/16" than me keeping these mounts gives me an excuse later down the road when these stock VW struts do blow out to upgrade to KonisIm just not in the mood to purchase a minimum of $400+ for 2 front struts right now. I wanna see how the car is gonna act and be roadworthy (kinda rough roads around here) being lowered first

Bob, u should just PM me,lol. For the konis, they are 9/16 or .5635". Turn around time is normally 3 weeks or so as I build them to order. I should have my machines up and running by this week sometime. Not sure if you know but we moved into a new building.

Ok, these will work perfect for me. Ready to install as we speak
I do have a very important question though. Not to sound like a bloody retard or anything. But will the new coilover mounts bolt to the top of the strut tower or the bottom??

Ok, for those interested.
I have these one. They are absolutely awsome!! I still need to align the car but from what I can tell I have plenty of positive caster to use. I have it jacked clear up right now and it acts like I have 3-4 degrees worth (perfect!) and I have camber in the middle and it seems about close. So there is plenty of camber adjustment.
I just put over 200 miles on them in the past 2 days. I have no rubbing from the coilovers, and no noise from the mounts of binding. I was a little worried about how strong they are but after not paying attention and hitting some large potholes hard at 70mph with 325lb springs, they didnt break. If they didnt fail after that, they arent gonna fail period.
Mark, I am very very happy with these. The front end is super responsive!! You can tell the stock mounts have way too much slop and degrade steering response.
And anyone who wants to know, with these and a 325lb/in 12" spring, your drop isnt enough to have tire issues or even tuck the tire and the ride is very very very firm. Im actually gonna change to a 250lb spring to give me more drop and a slightly better ride.

Yep, we sell alot of them. We also have them in stock for those of you interested.

OK, so 5/8" bearing is whats correct.
Yeah.. best bet is to go buy a stock strut to use a test unit and just return it when your done. Just to be on the safe sideOriginally Posted by dohc v6
