    Thinking about the 3100 Build maybe? Questions?.

    Hey guys, I was just wondering about a few thing’s. As most of you all know my 95 grand prix blew a head gasket and the main bearings are knocking. So I got on ebay and bought a 3100 with transmission. For 506 dollars shipped. (350 for the motor and transmission and 156 for shipping) So now I'm going to pull the motor and trans and put it in my car.

    So ill have a motor I can just mess around with. What are some numbers I could get out of a n/a 3100 or maybe even turbo it? I have this motor and I would LOVE to tear it down and re-build it. Yes I'm 16 and have never touched a motor. But I need to start if I want to accomplish what I want to with my car. I really want to be able to do it my self instead of rely on my dad. He works 60 hours a week and just does not have the time. I always wanted to do an l67 swap but money is a problem. I figure with the 3100 I could work on it one week her and one week there. Is there very much aftermarket parts for the 3100? If so Can someone give me some links because I can’t find shit! Thank you for dealing with my horrible spelling and shit really appreciate it guys.

    Id swap in a modded 3400 IMHO, but since you have the 3100 there, thats one way to start!

    But heres the problem your '95 is still 'OBD1.5' so you cannot tune. Therefore your options are VERY limited. Swap to OBDII and then you can really start to build up a motor.

    And how much money were you planning on spending? These things are not cheap once you get into them...

    Yes, there are several people that have swapped to OBDII. Its not something thats very easy and not its something that you can do in a couple hours....

    Just about everything performance wise for a 3100 is custom or expensive. I'd start by swapping a 3400 top end once you've rebuilt the internals to your liking. There are a few people here who have done it before that would be able to help you out.

    Here's a company that has had mixed reviews for the stuff they sell for 60* V6's. Go to engine performance for the 3100 and you can see how expensive these "custom" parts can be.

    Also, there's 60*V6...they're the people you might really want to deal with.

    I was not sure if it had been preformed or if people just thought that it could work in theory. No offense but I have a 5.0 swapped ranger. (the one in my avatar) I think I could handle it and if I could not my dad has been a tech for 30years pretty sure he could I am just starting out. I am just aware that obd2 GM is harder to wire than obd1 ford which is what I am mostly familiar with. And I am not familiar with tuning with a lap top witch is something I would like to get into being I could do so with obd2. But thanks for the heads up. Do you know anyone that has the swap?so I could PM them about it. SORRY ABOUT THE THREAD JACKING

    I would go to the 60*v6 site and get parts from them. I wont buy from Milzy since he said custom cams dont need custom pushrods to keep pre-load on the lifters. Heres what I would do;

    Remembering you cannot tune here:
    Get a set of 3400heads ( keep them stock ) Get a 3400p&p'ed LIM, 3500p&p'ed UIM, TCE 65mm TB. That will give you a good gain. yet will cost enough.

    If you want anything more, youll basically either have to swap a 3400 in and modify that a tad, or swap to OBDII
