    upgrades to quad 4

Hey guys, I'm going to put a little money into upgrading some stuff on my HO Quad 4. What do you recommend to do first? I'm getting it from mantapart.com. How much would a 60mm throttle body make a diff. do you think?

Other than W41 cams there really isn't much to do to a Quad 4. They make 180 hp out of a 4 cylinder.

that's not bad at all for a NA 2.3L....at least by 1990 standards.

What 4 cylinders make more power than that, that are DOHC and N/A?

I would like to know I'm not sure though.

from the factory, the exhaust end is pretty restrictive, so i would suggest their sports exhaust manifold and then do a full exhaust. make sure to have the downpipe replaced as this is the worst part of the exhaust system on the old quad4's.
as for their dynomax exhaust kit, i wouldnt recommend it. i put it on my old quad4 and i really didnt like how it sounded, and it made too much interior resonance. so have a shop custom bend you a set up, and choose a different brand of muffler. 8)

In 1990 I'm pretty sure no N/A 4 cyls. did. In '91 the W41 came out and they were making 190hp, which is damn good for a 2.3L IMO. You can get a header and ud pulley and stuff for them, but the parts aren't cheap.

There's tons of stuff to do to that Quad 4. It takes very very well to pretty much any mod you throw at it. You could get the w41 cams and chip as a start. Get a different exhaust manifold or go with a header. 2.5" exhaust is fairly common upgrade with these engines. Intake and UDP seem to do pretty good as well.

    Gas mileage?

I'll agree, the Kwadfore, in it's early, powerful forms was a badassed little motor. There's also almost a decade between the W41 and the B18c5, but 5speed didn't specify either. Both were made to go fast, rev to the moon & do it quickly. Other than the pointless but it's older/newer/has extra hampsters/painted a different color argument, what's apples to oranges about it?

People compare the LS1 to GM's cool motors of the past all the time..the DZ 302, the 327...I don't see much difference in comparing those two either.

My main problem with the Kwadfore is that GM just didn't keep improving it, they just castrated it for use in the 3rd gen J's.
