    Overview
The 1998-up Oldsmobile Intrigue is a second generation W-body car that replaced the Cutlass Supreme. The Intrigue is based on Oldsmobile's concept car, the Antares. Intrigue is available only as a one-size-fits-all 4-door sedan. It was available in Spring 1997 as an early 1998 model. Its release was delayed due to a last minute engine change, originally the 215HP 3.4L 24-valve DOHC V6 was slated to be the standard motor, but at the last minute GM decided to scrap the 3.4 and make the 195HP 3.8L Series II pushrod V6 the standard motor. The "old-fashioned" pushrod 3.8L V6 was actually a welcome change because it develops its horsepower and torque at much lower RPM which gives the feeling of much more power. The 3.8L Series II is also one of the most reliable motors with better fuel economy than most DOHC 24-valve motors. For 1999, a new all-aluminum 3.5L Twim Cam 24-valve V6 based on Cadillac's NorthStar V8 was made available. It produces 215HP@5500rpm and 230ft-lbs torque @ 4400rpm. Intrigue's contemporary styling and sports-car performance make it a strong competitor against the Japanese and European imports. Other standard features found on the Intrigue are 16x6.5" aluminum wheels, jeweled headlights and taillights with multi-faceted reflectors, power locks, and power windows.
