suprised a firebird owner

well comeing home this evening i saw a red firebird comeing up beside me i noticed it had some flame decals on the front fenders :lol: i slowed down abit and lined up next to him after a few minutes we both punched it going about 65, he pulled on me for a little bit then i just passed by him at about 90 we both shut down i was about one car length on him at that point, he had this look on his face like WTF?

same thing happend tonight was at a stoplight behind a truck and a cavalier with a white firebird next to me, let the two vehicles in front of us get on it waited while we idled forward then we both punched it and were dead even until my car shifted early (forgot i was in OD) but as sonn as i hit my powerband i was starting to pull a little bit but then traffic in front slowed us down, im positive it was a 5 speed firebird though

gotta love the f-bod hardasses :lol: i almost wound up in that category! :shock: wouldv'e too if it wasn't for that meddeling $230 a mo. on high risk insurance. glad i decided not to get it, holding out for the real deal(v8!!!). though i did test the ole Fury, back in the hypertech days against a friend's 01 f-bird v6. i was driving that, my other friend was driving Fury, and managed to stay really close to the rear in OD. i was proud.....proud i tell you!

I had the same thing happen to me when my TGP was bone stock WITH a bad O2 sensor, cracked cross-x pipe, a bad cat, my friend in the car, and two bowling balls in the back. A white 93-97 Firebird V6 reved at me at a light. I was even next to him for about 100ft or so before we shut it down due to the next light.

Nah I raced a LS1 Auto Firebird, and was right on his rear bumper. But then we hit 3rd and he started to gain just a bit before we shut it down.

speaking of the door badging on the birds......theres a 98-02 Firebird running around w/ Formula(the factory font)on the doors, right behind the Firebird badge. i saw him on the road and he acted all hardass, those stickers must've gone to his head. i got a look at the rear, and theres only 1 exhaust pipe :lol:

way back when, I raced my 3.1 SE agaist an 87ish v6 camaro, had me off the line with the shorter gears ut as soon as i hit 2ed he was seein tail lights.

The t/a LT1 i beat was an auto completely stock. Just b/c its an LT1 dosnt mean its going to pull a 14.0any day of the week. The car probably has stock wires and plugs(just over 104k miles), and since it was from a roll i wasnt not going to get eaten alive at the launch :D where i normaly get killed and play catchup.

FWIW: I have had three 3.4 DOHC vehicles and a one with a 5.7L.....it makes me chuckle to hear you say that it doesn't take much to get a 3.4 close to a 5.7L .....my 6spd ran low 13s bone stock, if a 3.4 doesn't "take much" to get it close, then why are you only at 14.78???? Don't get me wrong I actually do like the 3.4, but the 5.7L engines are in a totally different league....

Firebird- 3.8 v6 (Firebird badge on doors and rear center)
Formula- ls1 (unmarked, sometimes has Formula on headlight)
Trans Am- ls1(10 hp more than formula, marked on doors and rear)
TA Ram air- ls1(15- 20hp more than formula, marked)
Firehawk- ls1(more than any of em! :shock:, marked )

you forgot to mention automatic lol.
there is a pretty big difference between 3.4dohc stock and a modd 3.4dohc from 4krpms all the way to 6900rpms or better(aaron running 7kPlus on a manual :shock:). infact its not even comparible.

Aaron whats the diamiter on your ColdZ intake? im working on a custum intake simalar, and since my upper and lower intakes are off im going to polish the internals :D also im working on a theory that will manipulate the runnerse to act larger then they are.

I just sold an Lt1 camaro with an intake chip and exhaust it ran a 13.5 at 106mph with a 2.001 60ft on street tires. I currently own a red auto and a black 5 spd z that has a fresh motor an neither are anywhere close, my buddy has a stock Lt1 six speed with 3.73s and runs a 13.8

perhaps all the lq1 vs lt1 talk should be changed to from a roll it doesnt take that much to make a 5 spd lq1 compete w/ an auto lt1

i'm gunna have to say if slicks car was running right in a street race condition it would walk on u. say what u want, but i will give u props cause u are a good driver at the track. just my personal thoughts

Firebirds in their several incarnations had the LT1 from '93 - '97. The LS1 was the engine from '98 - '02. I own a 2004 Monte SS as well as a 2000 LS1 based Camaro. Assuming the LT1 or LS1 car isn't broken, it would be a cold day before a Wbody would beat one. My 2000 runs 12.83 -- before the latest round of mods.
