View Full Version : alero vs 03 grand am gt 3400
well tonight i raced a grand am gt 3400 thought it was going to be good. the guy comes in to napa all the time asken what he could to do his car to get good performance. i dont no what all he has before that but i know it has 3400 and ram air. so i get up next to him we are going about 30mph. he stomps on it first and then i gas and i started pulling on him pretty quick. ending up with like 1 car lead on him easy by 60. i slow back down and he waves next day at work i beat he askes what i have in my car and i am going to say just cai and exhaust but it seems fast compared to other aleros with the v6 i walk on them way easy like dan said i can keep up with his gtp from a stomp.

i'd like to see dyno results on your Alero and Dan's GTP. Jeremy and i are going to try to make it to a Dyno Day at Redline in Ft.Collins this weekend with his Omni GLH (again). we went to the PFI Speed Dyno Day last week. i'm heading down there with my Lebaron GTS as soon as i get the engine & trans back in and have 1000 or so miles on it :)
is your car quicker from a roll or a dig? cuz when i raced Dan's GTP from a 30mph roll i stayed even with him up to 50mph. then again i've raced your Alero from a dig and got about 1.5 car lengths by 50mph.
my car is quicker from a roll i dont get a very good launch in my car. i dont know why i just dont think i get very good launches even tho i smoked that impala from a stop and then from a roll

only reason you smoked the impala was it has a 3400 in it just like your car if it was the base model one
point is same motors one heavy car one light which will win let me think :bonk:

I would assume you have a slight weight advantage on a GAGT (maybe 50lbs or so), but the biggest contributor to THIS win was likely the gearing difference...............you have a 3.05 axle ratio vs his 3.29, which means from a 30mph roll you drop right into the heart of your powerband in 1st gear (probably ~4500rpm I'd guess), where he is reving higher and can't hold 1st gear for more than 10mph or so (the rev limiter in 1st is at 43mph, and the actually SHIFT right around 40mph in "D").................so since this means he kicks down...then kicks right back up, thus wasting time.
Add in your CAI and exhaust mods (correct?) and you can see why you pulled.
I'd see if you can re-do it from a dead stop.............I would bet that well launched (you need to brake torque a GAGT with the TC OFF to get the most out of it), he will probably get you off the line and into 2nd gear, but past 60mph your mods will start to take effect and you'll pull...................whether you get by him by your 105mph governor will really depend on how much power you gained.

That alero hauls ass from a 30 roll. I was suprised it kept up with the gtp.

sheit...you dont need to break your motor in for a long period of time like that...if you drive it hard within around 20mi you can break it in that way....a friend of mine made 451whp with his talon with 23mi on it :D

oh i'm not breaking in the motor. i didn't even rebuild the engine or install a new cam. i'm going to be running full manifold pressure to the wastegate (~ 4psi) for about 1000 miles so i can break in the new clutch and make sure everything checks out 100% before i turn up the grainger valve to 14psi. besides, i deliver pizza with the car so i can rack up 1000 miles VERY quickly :)
