how fast is the WRX?

i was with my brother yesterday (in his Omni GLH Turbo) racing a nice silver WRX on the highway...about 50mph-100mph....

just wondering how fast these cars are in the 1/4 and trap speed? does power 'fall off' at highways speeds since it's AWD?

he raced an older WRX a few weeks ago and totally killed that car, but this newer silver WRX did much better.

They aren't THAT strong at highway speeds, but will still match up reasonably well to something like a GTP or an older 5.0L Mustang LX (5 speed) from ~50mph on up (and eat either alive out of the hole).

They'll also pull to roughly 140mph given the room (stock).



Mods make a BIG difference though................I have a vid of a stock WRX going against an SRT-4 from a roll and getting STOMPED, and another with just basic bolt-ons (up pipe, exhaust, a little extra boost etc) holding one from 60-120mph, and *slowly* pulling past that speed (up to ~135mph when they shut off).

Oh..............BTW.

Most WRX's seem to run 14.0-14.4@94-96mph (that AWD launch REALLY helps doesn't it :D).

Bear in mind..........that's with a good driver though.




Now a WRX auto (they DO make them...........in wagon form at least)..............15.5-16.0@87-89mph.

Slow and gay (comparitively speaking).............

wtf. the blue WRX here in town is a 5-speed. the guy 'seemed' to drive it ok (i was in the passenger seat in this race too), but Jeremy absolutely killed it....from a dig up to 80-90 mph....the WRX gained less than 1 car length on launch, and in 2nd we RAN by him...Jeremy even missed third for 2-3 seconds, he caught up and Jeremy killed him over again in 3rd. something must be wrong with that blue WRX. if that blue WRX is a low 14 second car, then it made Jeremy's Omni GLH look like a low 12 second car, which of course it's not. details (http://www.turbododge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55406)

the race with the silver WRX was from a 50mph roll...but the outcome is about what i would expect.

i raced that wrx they aren't that fast ya it kicked my ass off the line but maybe by 2 cars at most but when we hit like 60-70 i started gaining back on it pretty quick but they are sapposed to do 0-60 in like 5.3 or something like that but dont take my word on it but that one in town isn't that fast i raced it with a chick driven in town and smoked it then my friend yelled at them and said to go race out of town for 5 bucks lol. and when we got out there there was a guy driven but i think those cars have alot more then how he drove it i mean ya i can see that omni mud stomping that wrx cause that one it slow.

wrx's are definately not all they are cracked up to be...so much drivetrain loss...i saw a decently driven wrx run 15.4 against me...i have the timeslip too actually...and they do make autos in sedans too...i have yet to see a regular wrx put up a good fast time

i have a 94 grand prix se and a 92 talon tsi...the grand prix is just the winter/daily driver car...i used to be all into modding it but its just too expensive so i quit...i have port and polished upper and lower intake manifolds, ported throttle body, underdrive pulley and the usual intake on the GP...the talon well those mods are secret you just have to guess by the sound

and one more thing...i wouldnt exactly call dsmtuners.com, dsmstyle.com or straightlinespecialties.com ricey sites...especially not straightline...they dont have anything ricey about them...the dsm ones could have the occasional ricers but not very many dsmers are ricey especially not 1gs

ive rarely seen a 1st gen eclipse/talon i would call rice....one of my buddies from school who transferred to purdue is big into dsm....his car is not rice and he has ran a 13.9

a friend of mine that was into DSMs managed to run 12.1 on the stock 14b turbo...thats pretty impressive but not the record...the record on the stock turbo is 11.8...but most of my dsm friends arent close to stock turbos and are making 400+ whp easily without nitrous on STOCK LONGBLOCKS

you dont want a talon es...you gotta have turbo man but if you were to get a nonturbo dsm a first gen would be the way to go cause atleast its got the n/a 4G63

my friend has a 92 1g eclipse with the NA 4g63 5speed, itll keep up like maybe a couple of inches between his front end and that of a 95 beretta 3100 auto they shall have to race again
