View Full Version : alero vs z28
i raced a camaro z28 from a stop light going up hill. didn't think the guy was going to race then when the light turned green he took off tried to play the catch up game but didn't happen. he pulled a two car lead by 55 but it was all lost off the line when he went and didn't get the launch.

just for the record, you are aware that the alero is an "N" body and not a "w" body?

2 car length isn't that bad... what year Z28 was it?

He's still welcome on the board. If I get an Alero (I like those cars) I hope to stay here and post also.

Good run travis. Aleromod doesn't have a race section.

I'm a member at Mymonte and I don't own a Monte Carlo...LOL. At least he has one of our engines. :D
So did you actually think you'd do somewhat well racing a Z28? It would have been a closer match if you raced a Camaro 3.4...those aren't that fast.
ya i know my car is this body i have friends that are on here with these types of cars and i like the race story part of this forum. i just thought i would let u guys know and i dont think he was toying with me cause i have raced a z28 from a roll and won and then the guy flipped me off. but this won was newer and it won i am pretty sure he was trying cause when he was shifting he was smoken the tires and he was smoken them from the start.

There are tons of guys over at ClubGP with Regals and the like. Not a problem there, as long as you're in the family somehow. :D

HA! - If it was an 93 and up he was toying with you.....and several of the late 80's and early 90's Z's would hand your a$$ to you too
If it was a newer one, it was prolly some dumb kid with a V6 that thought he'd be cool by smacking some Z28 badges on it.

If he was smoking his tires he probably didn't know how to drive the damn thing. If he got traction instead of tire smoke you would have been in his rear view mirror..

My dad has a 94 Z28 6-speed. And a buddy of mine has a Grand Am GT, 3400 4-speed. Through his first gear it is kinda close, I can put him to my rear bumper, but that is all. After 40mph, it's done. The GA GT shifts, and the Z28 just pulls away.
I wouldn't go so far to call it "wicked fast" though....but the 99s did have 20more hp, maybe that makes it "wicked fast"

the 98+ LS1 F-Bodys run consistent mid 13s off the showroom floor, and the 93-97 LT1 F-Bodys ran low 14's (a very good driver can pull a high 13 if the car is in good shape). The 98+ cars are an average of .5 seconds faster (stock for stock).

The times are, from Motor Trend, a 13.4 for a LS1 Camaro 6-speed, and a 13.9 for a LT1 6-speed. So about a half second-but still not "wicked fast."

believe it or not Aaron, "wicked fast" is a relative term. i would say mid 13s is "wicked fast" compared to a 3400 Alero that runs mid 15s.

FWIW: my Z ran 13.61s bone stock and in the year that I had it I managed to get it down to 12.42s, which I consider "wicked fast"......especially compared to an Alero

mid 14-15 seconds = "quick"
14s=fast
13=very fast or just fast (depending on the car)
12s or lower= very fast or wicked fast.. you pick.
Aleros are "quick".
1995 Grand Prix 3100= "average" (maybe slow by todays standards though)
1988 GP 2.8 = SLOW.
ya but it was all in good fun
