in the process of replacing Timing Belt. have a Question

I got the engine torn down, and the old belt off. Now do I rotate the cams so the flat is up, then put the hold down tool on; then loosen the cam sprockets? or am I doing this wrong? I rotated the engine to TDC.

I have a question for u, if you don't know how to do the job especially a big one like a timing belt why are you doing it. (I am sure you will get it but the shops don't charge that much to R&R a timing belt) what ever good luck

hey, ass hole I figured it out. Not every one has the $600 laying around to pay a shop, plus no one wants to touch a LQ1 around here.

hell i did mines wiht NO Hold down tool or NO cam puller...just aligned all cams flats up then rotated the front cams 15 teeth down for both, slapped the belt on and VIOLA! Did all this with your standard tool set plus a breaker bar.

1st mechanic= $680 plus the 2nd mechanic discovered alot of cut wires and bullshit the 1st mechanics did, dont know on purpose or by mistake.

way to go getting your hands dirty without knowing what you were doing. Now you do know what you are doing. I'm sure that you feel great about accomplishing such a task and your pocket doesn't feel so empty for that fact as well. I'd much rather hear that than some pansy saying they were going to get assraped by a mechanic because they were too afraid to do a job themselves.
