The cars aren't too clean, but this was kindof a spur of the moment, oh my god they're all at the house, lets do something about it type deal. Enjoy the fail.

They look good! All three of those cars are fairly uncommon around here. Especially the SE. I haven't even seen too many newer Montes

Cars look great. I'd love to even just drive a 5 speed W.

Liking that '06?

Night Fury
04-11-2012, 06:49 PM
Yeah the 06 is great! It's leaking quite a bit of oil from (dear god no) the oil pan I think.

3500 is a great engine. Smooth, quiet, powerful, reliable....

06- 210,200 miles
88- 256,100 miles
91- 174,000 miles

Figured I'd be fair to the monte and actually at least powerwash the bird shit off of it. Also powerwashed the bay, it was FILTHY.

Especially the 5-speed. I've learned all about the fail the 4T65 can be. LOL

The 91 looks SO much better without the hood bra!

Good news: this LQ1 preforms AWESOME, better than the other two I had. Bad news: you have to granny shift it.

Have you changed the fluid in it yet? I flushed the 282 in the 88 out and then replaced it with Amsoil Synchromesh and it made a world of a difference. MUCH less notchy and it quit jumping out of first gear after I drove it for a while.

Nice man. How's the Monte/ 3500 been treating ya? Just wondering what I can look out for on my wife's '06 Impy.

It has been in the family since the 20k mile range, and it now has 210k miles on it. In that time, a fair amount of stuff has needed replaced, but most of it has been wear items. It's a good car.

They all look nifty to me. I love those newer Montes for some reason. Good to know that 3500 made it to 210k. Gives me hope for my fiance's Malibu with that engine. The rest of the car may fall apart, but at least the powerplant will be good (hopefully). :)

The '88 is my favorite.

very nice collection Buck!

* on a side note, I never did understand the fascination that everyone here has with the 282/284 cars. they are one of the crudest feeling manual transmissions that I have ever driven....granted they were more fun then then slushboxes from those years, but still very crude none-the-less...

RobertISaar
04-12-2012, 09:18 PM
but how many GOOD feeling/durable GM transaxles are there?

i'm just obsessed with rowing my own, which everyone that likes 282/284 must be as well to put up with their quirks.

Cars are looking good! Thats a ton of miles on the Mont2.. I wish i could rack some more miles on the Impala. At 182,600 right now. Goal is 200k. A bit out of the loop. What happened the the black GP?

As much as I love my manual trans cars, Jeremy is right. I like my 282/284 cars in smaller doses. The notchy / noisy / numb getrags are not very refined and gets old after a while.

he may be right they get old after awhile but my latest slushbox is very fun so far. I can't imagine the manual being this fun. then again I haven't driven a turbo with manual trans.

I daily drove the 88 5-speed for quite a while with no complaints  I'd love to have that trans in the 04 instead of the 4T65.

And how lucky you get with that particular transmission. The 89 5-speed GP I had in high school was notchy and finicky as fuck. The 88 was MUCH better.

AWeb80
04-12-2012, 11:36 PM
plus the 5speed is just a perfect match for the 3.4. it also allows you to stay in the power curve w/ the 2.8......since there isn't much power there.

Night Fury
04-13-2012, 01:16 AM
Thanks all.

And yes, the MTXs are notchy and primitive feeling, but TBH a LQ1 isn't really worth having without a mtx behind it. REALLY wakes it up. Also, 2.8/auto? Come on now. I like beating snails to highway speeds.

That said, my 284 needs a fluid flush, and first gear in the 88/282 is kinda stupid. It's about like reverse in most other mtx cars... Can't hardly get it in unless you're moving.

1000x this. I don't like daily driving my z34 for very long because of that.
