Hey, if there's a few of us from the Minneapolis area, I may be able to set up a dyno day, even if everyone has a stock car (like me) it's still fun to get up and see what kinda power you're making. just a thought tho, I did a dyno day for the Turboford people here in MN with my mustang and the turnout was pretty good, and we had an awesome time ...

well if I can get enough guys together from here and from 60degreev6 to come down to the shop, I can get John to let us have a fun dyno day, obviously not free, but at a real cheap price. We'll have to see what we can do 'bout this.

everyone's welcome on the dyno at any time, just give us a call and make sure we're available to get 'er up there, when it comes time for a club to show up is when we give discounts, currently, if you just wanna make two pulls, you're lookin' at $80.00 for dyno rental it's $150.00 per hour, and to have us tune your car for you on the dyno that's an addl $80 per hour for a total of $230.00 per hour, all prices include the use of the wideband O2, it's not 100% more like in the 98% range, but 98% is damn close.

 I was just gonna say that!
im up for some dyno time
gotta see what the turbo will throw down in my monte
i am sure i can get a couple other monte guys to come
but we need more on the price per person, not time wise. if its time wise, who knows how many cars can be dyno'd then.
and this will be at HMS? anyone have any other hookups?

Yup, it's at JHMS (John Haley Motorsports)
if you come in with a club, you can put anything you want up there, with the turboford dyno day we had somoene put a bone stock 82 Chevy caprice up there (100 HP) so typically we do it time-wise, you can usually run 2 pulls on 4 cars in an hour, mostly because we are fairly quick about getting cars on and off the dyno. John is a real good guy about it too, he's pretty easy going, if you bring in a few cars, and go over by like 15 minutes, John is cool 'bout it. If you want to do a full day of it, always call us ahead of time, so we can clear the calander, we'll pick up lots of pop, and order Pizza for people too, it's always a good time.
I was thinking early to mid June too..

thats awesome, i will DEFINITELY be there!!!mid june is perfect! hopefully i can get my new intake and TB on by then
i think i am gonna pass on JHMS.
if you can set something up somewhere else, i will be all for it, but IMO i prefer not to go to them.
i care not to bash this place openly but all you have to do is a little research to find out what kind of rep they have (nothing against the guy that works there now).
maybe things have changed in the last year, but for a FWD car, i wont be letting them strap my car up

Okay folks, I'd like to clear a few things up, it's slightly upsetting to see people talking bad about the shop that I work at.
Yes, I'm the guy at JHMS, for starters, I would like to know which car got "hosed" real bad, and was quoted at costing $10,000 to fix when someone else did it for $200, secondly, does anyone know what happened the day the car came close to coming off dyno?
Before people start spreading rumors, please check your facts, we had one car come near to coming off the dyno sideways due to a faulty strap. The car was a FWD car and when the strap broke car jumped sideways, but never actually left the dyno, no damage to the car, no damage to the dyno.
as for cars blowing up on the dyno, there have been a few, recently we had an older mustang with a fresh engine (NOT built by us) end up with a rod knock, we had an import blow up on the dyno because the person who owned the car put in a nitrous kit, at was used and it was set up as a 100 HP shot for a 5.0 mustang, try stuffing that into a 1.8 VTEC and see what happens, and we've had a few old 100,000+ mile engines start making unkind noises, and we had a 97 (I think) Mustang Cobra dump it's internals all over our floor, but ford warranted that motor, they wouldn't have done that if it was our fault.
as for some of our current projects, currently we're working on the Supra that won the audovations show, the engine was put together wrong at an other shop and the shop that had the car before us broke one of the owners brand new HKS cams, so we're rebuilding that whole motor, also we're working on a 240 SX, we're putting in an RB26DETT (Ever hear of that engine, twin turbo out of the skyline) I just finished up the cam timing on a 99 Mustang GT (fairly easy job) anyhow someone else (not a shop but a friend of a friend) put the engine together and got the cam's timed very wrong, we've got a 66 Nova in the shop that's been getting LOTS of work done to it, nitrous, tub'd out the rear end, frame work, interior all redone, total project car, we had a 300HP Toyota MR2 come thru, the owner blew that up himself a few times now, and the RX7 we've got down there, getting a new engine - I could go on and on, perhaps people should look at their facts before they get real up in arms about the bad things that happened, for example, if you wanted to talk about bad things, why not focus on other places, I can think of pleanty of bad stories about dealorships, and jiffy lube's all over the Cities, but rather I would like to see people come in for themselves.
by the way, at JHMS, we always include the WBO2, and typically it's $80 for two back to back runs (usually you get three) and $150 per hour to run on the dyno, on dyno days the price is usually better then that, also on dyno days we don't usually tune cars, it's a day for people to come down and see what their car is making and get an idea of the A/F ratio so perhaps they can come later and tune if they want to.
Every business is going to have people who've had bad experiences, but why let the few people who've had those bad experiences ruin it for everyone else.
I can think of pleanty of bad stories about dealorships, and jiffy lube's all over the Cities, but rather I would like to see people come in for themselves
and thats why i dont go to dealERships, or jiffy lube, or other places that have bad reps.
nothing against you or JHMS, the rep of ANY business is what makes it or breaks it. thats why i dont get gas from Quick Trip, Amaco, BP, or PDQ. its the chance i dont want to take
so you are admitting to the car almost coming off the dyno, thats all i need to hear. even if JHMS blames the strap. personally i dont want to be the next guy that someone blames the strap on.
i once knew a guy that worked there and he is so F'n retarded i would never let him work on my car let alone just strap it to a dyno.
its the reputation of JHMS and FWD cars that makes me not want to go to him.
And the fact that he PERSONALLY offered me and my friends a MUCH MORE discounted price than what your offering us.
you bring it down to $40 for 2 pulls and O2 readings or $55 for 3 pulls and O2, then we may talk
but until then, i am truly sorry, but i wont be going to JHMS

.. I'll start by saying, yes, I know I can't spell.
secondly, what would me lying about a car breaking a strap do? not a whole lot. as for the car breaking the strap and coming nearly off the dyno, the reason it didn't come all the way off is because we've got 4 straps on the drive wheels, and two on the non drive wheels. I can think of ton's of dyno shops that have had problems with dyno straps breaking, it's not something that was due to operator error.
It's alright that you don't want to come, I'm not offended, and I do appreciate your input.
--Dave
im glad your not pissed man, otherwise you wont get a free 3100 engine, lol 8)
but as i stated before, i understand your point and would defend my employer too! nothing wrong with that.
but like i said, i personally have not heard AS MUCH bad stuff about other places as i have about JHMS. granted, they may be top notch and gotten a bad rap, which might just be the case. but to have a bad rap and try to make things better, i am all for that, but considering that other shops around the cities are giving MUCH better rates for dyno time, i would prefer them.
but like i said, if he/JHMS is willing to work out something on price, then i might attend a dyno, granted, i would be the last car on the dyno, lol, but i would at least give him and you guys the chance.
i am willing to give anyone a chance like i said, but money talks and if i have to spend a butt load of money at a place that does have a bad reputation with FWD cars, then i hate to say it, my money will go someplace else that does not have as bad of a reputation in my eyes. but thats just me.
you get a great price, you can count me in. but $75 for 3 pulls, is not a discount compared to the everyday prices the other places charge.

Germ, I'm gonna talk to to John tomorrow, and see what we can do for everyone, hopefully I can get a good price, I'm sure he'd be willing to do it, I'd like to see this place start to change over a bit, and get a better rep.

I havent heard good nor bad about JHMS, I was always interested in going up there to dyno or see what kind of prices they have for other stuff. After reading some of that stuff, a strap breaking is enough to scare the shit out of me, and possible put my only car out of commission. As for FWD, i almost would feel more comfortable going to an import shop, because most of their cars are FWD.
