View Full Version : Interest in full stainless 3inch tgp downpipes
Mach 5

ok so its a go on this. I will taking pre-orders as of this upcoming monday December 10, 2012. I would like at least 5 preorders before I start. end date for pre-orders is January 3, 2013. That is if we are still here as not predicting by the Mayans. if I get 5 preorders by that date I will knock off 15% from the total. Also I will need a core. core charge is $50
so- $800 for the downpipe + $50 core charge= $850 then for group buy its - 15% so figure $130 off without core return or $120 with core..
I would like $400 as a downpayment for each as this will cover material costs.
Trying to figure out how much interest is in a tgp 3 inch downpipe. I have one on my car right now it uses a stock 5 bolt flange modified for a 3inch pipe with a louvered style over a weave style flex pipe and a v- band clamp. I have no idea whether it will fit on an automatic trans and with an abs unit installed. I have it on a getrag 282 and a 284 with a regular vacuum booster. Modfication for fitment?? You will have to slightly custom fit the heat shield by the power steering rack on the fire wall and by the cat using a ball peen hammer. These will by made for cars without a catalytic converter that will have to be added by the installer. All welded sections inside the pipe will be smoothed for flow. I am very anal about this.. All downpipes will be made stainless and gas not flux wire. the unit on my car was a prototype. I will also need to know location of O2 sensors and if youre using stock t25 or sr20 5 bolt flange. If I dont get a core I will have to substitute flange. I personally like to use the stock one since its very thick and contours well.
Performance increase? let me put it to you this way.. If you dont port your wastegate, your stock wastegate will not flow enough to reduce the boost. I will provide a dyno graph at some point and I will pay for a persons dyno if they send me results using my parts along with a video that corresponds with it.
if you have any questions please shoot..

if you can guarantee this will fit a PM3, 4T60HD car, I'm listening.
Mandrel bent?
I'd like to see one done (I've seen your first one) when you're done making the jig.

I might be able to work out a deal if someone is willing to test fit on a PM3, auto car.. All Ive got here are manual cars without abs.

This is an example of how much this new downpipe flows. you will outflow your stock wastegate and it will need to be ported.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UxsPQGxHxI&list=UUlt3fhA--Fal0jdxnZx1rUQ&index=26&feature=plcp

I got a jig here. all you would need to do is send the steel to my welder and he can build one for you. the stock flange is weak though.

stock flange is weak?? Is that when its just the flange? I leave part of the pipe attached then mate it to the 3 inch pipe. have yet to have any issues..

I like to keep exhaust velocity up for 7-12 inches or so out from the wheel.
I just say stock is weak since I have a 3/4" thick mild steel flange. not sure if you can even find them any more though. I wanted to buy a couple more but didn't see them anymore on ebay. I am sure you could get a cnc guy to build a run of them.
it had a perfect cavity machined in low profile for the wastegate door. I have pics in my thread of it. fucking works perfect.

I will check it out! I happen to like the stock set for the first 3 inches its got a nice smooth flow down to the size of the pipe. for cost effectiveness I am going to start with a modified stock flange then perhaps go from there. same thing I do all my welding while Im not the best I have yet to have a weld break on anything. I cant wait to switch to gas though it would be soo much cleaner.

you should still make em like that though. I had him make me a 2.5 mild steel with the stock flange. I am putting that on the 3400 in the 88. the red tgp needs an exhaust redo as well. I may have to get into some welding myself!
aw fuck it. I just like to drink beer and watch!

maybe make one up in your jig but just tack it up good, I'll test fit to make sure it fits,(easier to mod if its just tacked) make appropriate changes if need be and document them, then have it welded up.

this.
also when you make the jig, it is good to have an old t-25 exhaust housing on a pos stock x-over you aren't using maybe. then bolt up all the flanges like it was on a car. this is good for aligning the DP with the X-over and especially for building one for a automatic car. limited space so you need it as close to the x-over as you can.
just weld the turbo exhaust section to the jig base with the Xover bolted on basically.

thats exactly what I was thinking! I have an idea on exactly how its gonna be. The next up coming weeks Im going to be talking to suppliers so i can get the cost down if possible. I know the flex pipe alone was maybe $80 if I remember correctly I already get a discount since I do a ton of business so I cant remember how much I paid but you never know.. due time.
keep the ideas rolling!! its well appreciated

Are you serious? This must be a joke Right? What the hell did you weld that "thing" with? That thing will crack FOR SURE. How could you take that much money from someone for that very low quality part? And that dent?? Hey, if it doesnt fit just whack it with a hammer right?? And your asking for a deposit??? Come on man.... What happens when that Harbor Freight welder of yours takes a shit??? Are you gonna ask these people for MORE money??? I will post pics in a minute of what a stainless weld is "supposed" to look like.....

^-yeah its a joke.. for someone who has one post your most certainly coming off as a jackass. I worked hard on this a few years back and while its no where near my best work, at the time it was ok. So Im asking $630 for a completed one this month and it will be in stainless with stainless feed and gas.. this was my mock up prototype for my personal car and to anyone who actually knows me knows that I produce quality and overbuild everything along with beating the living piss out of anything I drive. Furthermore, that dent is to clear the brake master cylinder. The idea was to have it setup in the stock location so you dont have to move your turbo. this setup is 50% larger than stock and flows very well. If you knew how tight the engine was you would understand. McLaren put that "dent" in from the factory to clear the brake master becuase of where the turbo sits so have that much larger of a pipe in that location leaves that much less space. to one side is the cruise control, below, the shifter linkage, up top is the master, and to the other side are the heater lines, intake charge pipes and fuel lines. I also got this pipe to fit with just a 1/2inch on either side. its the biggest pipe you can run in the stock location on the stock setup.
and with that welder I have built, exhaust setups, re-framed cars, custom suspension setups and the like. and the $400 is to pay for the feed, gas, pipes, and anything else up front. Im also offering a few different options as well that goes along with not using the stock 5 bolt flange.
I tell you what, you beat me in a race with a 1st gen tgp and I will give you my gratitude....

Maybe I'm coming off a bit harsh, but if you can do better, why would you market yourself with that??? I know for a fact we could build that pipe with no dents. I have respect for people that do work out of the garage and put in the time to achieve what they want. But if you gonna market stuff, it has to be quality stuff you can stand behind. I know I just joined but im SICK AND TIRED of watching people selling/building junk. You dont know me and I dont know you, But be careful with what you say about a race my friend....... You have ABSOLUTLY NO IDEA what rolls out of my shop doors. So how bout this, I'll Race your car, but im not interested in gratitude. Hows july sound? $5000.00, on the street, ill even spot you 10 car lenths.... Balls in your court....

Ok, bench racing aside....... Did you join up specifically to dump on Jarek here? Its what it seems, you likely know something I don't but its not exactly a good way to get off to a good start. I'd say before spouting off about how he is a total hack it would have been a bit more beneficial to just ask some questions.
I'd wager that the number of Speed/Custom shops even willing to take on what he is doing is rather nil....(and if they would I could only imagine the cost) considering 95% of the rebuilt crossover pipes people are running on their TGPs can be sourced back to one of 3 members of this community and that is a part essential for proper stock operation, let alone someone making performance parts for a limited run (~5000 unit) 23 year old forgotten FWD sedan.

Quoted for historical purposes.
Not that I'm interested in one of these downpipes, but that aside, if I was, I certainly wouldn't be doing business with a fuckass jagoff like this even if you could promise higher quality for half the price. Do you even know anything about 1st Gen Ws? Someone who claims to build "race cars", I'd be willing to bet not. That said, "Altered Engineering" doesn't even appear to exist, and I love how "Quality Race Cars" is in double quotes. Why don't you go jump in front of a moving bus "asshole."

These are pics of our quality. We did all the cage work and the chute mount only. All Custom Bent By Us (not a kit) All Chromoly, TIG welded, almost ZERO gaps, very tight and way overebuilt. We tend to get carried away. The customer lost almost no space in the driver/pass. area
We have had some W-Body stuff in the works for a while now, but we will not market anything until the parts are proven and tested. We also have something you guys will be very excited about. But we wont be ready to show any pics for 6-8 months (hopefully)
We will also make you guys ANYTHING you could want, there is almost nothing we cant do to these cars. The sky is the limit. PM us if you need something that is not offered in the aftermarket. Sorry for the hyjack, just dont like seeing poor quality

whatever dude. I dont have 5 grand to spend on a race but I will race for .02 cents.. Im not taking your apology. Whether your a true performance shop or not it doesnt matter.. you are very disrespectful and you most certainly lost my respect. We are here to try to help and expand ideas and parts to our oddball community not to bash others work. I would have greatly appreciated input of how I could change in design and I could make changes and explain myself but thats not what happened. It seems all you came on here for was to bash others and expand your business.
that is a nice cage very well done I give you that much.
and I will say this, at the rate your going I dont want to know you or have any association with your business. Im sure you build great cars that are very quick.

whatever dude. I dont have 5 grand to spend on a race but I will race for .02 cents.. Im not taking your apology. Whether your a true performance shop or not it doesnt matter.. you are very disrespectful. and while I agree my welds are a bit harsh in the pic it was a prototype and I dont have the budget right now to make another one. and that dent, it was there for a reason from the factory. If the turbo was moved it would be easier to not have the dent in fact I can guarrantee no dent.
I worked hard for what I have. I spent whatever little money I had to make this and Im trying to get money together to make a new piece so I can use that to market instead of my old pix from 2010.
that is a nice cage very well done I give you that much.

the car I built was to daily drive, get decent gas mileage, full interior, and be fast on a budget. the engine was to unleash the absolute most i could from the stock LG5 block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. still not even tuned yet and its already met all my expectations. taking a 15.3 quarter mile car and beating cars way faster. Im happy..
Don't worry man, the apology was not aimed at you. Also I I'm pretty sure your missing the whole point of all this drama I seemed to have created...... I would Never insult someone that has tried their hardest and worked with what they had available. But, when you want to sell that part to the public, thats where I get upset. Both of my business's have been built on helping people that have been taken advantage of. Actually most of the race cars here now have just came directly from other places that have done VERY poor work (and to the untrained eye the work looks passable). Im not accusing you of this, but most of the time the customer does not know the difference and may not understand what is quality and what is not. Again, you don't know me or my business, but i go through a lot of shit to make sure everything is as best as it can be and i am extremely honest (sometimes that is not what people want but I cant change that) One more thing..... I am not trying to be disrespectful, but Like I said earlier some people may not know that pipe is gonna fail and thats the main reason we wanted to start doing stuff for the w-body community. I can't tell you the amount of W-Body guys ive talked to and read about that have issues with the parts they have bought or they dont fit etc....
Also, I don't want you associated with my business, It's obviously not your cup of tea....

You are correct, Not too many shops would work on your cars. But I don't believe in just working on one type of car. I personally believe that if a vehicle means that much to a person than I have no right to turn that person away. I have a lot of respect for anyone that loves a car so much that they want to improve it, regardless of its dollar value. I love the jobs that no other shop would take on. That being said, I wont do ANYTHING. I have no interest in working backwards. I'm sure I have hurt a lot of peoples feelings, But I'm just saying what I see. That is a lot of money for something of that quality.
