Wanted: a '98-'01 Grand Prix GT/GTP sedan. Looking to spend around $2200. Musts:

3.8L
Alloys
Moonroof
CD/Cassette
Leather
HUD
SWRC
ECC

The rest I don't care about. Miles can be high. No SE sedans. I'd consider a coupe but I'd rather have a sedan. Looking to purchase around the second week of Feb.

I have two one sedan GT, one coupe GTP both black need some tlc. The GT has a blown tranny both are in the upper 200,000k range. The idea for me was to take the 4 door and make a perfect car out of the GTP. I can do that or sell them together cheap.

Hold out for a 98+....the difference in insurance will be negligible

yep. plus when i had my 98 GT, my insurance card said "GT/GTP", so i dunno if it makes a difference.

there is nothing wrong with the 1997's they have the same problems that the 98+ do with a little changes.

The transmissions are the same. 97-02 In the GTP'S With the diffrence of a cooler line fittings being changed in late 1999.

The intake box was changed in 98 and the coolant bottle was moved in 98

the blowers were SLIGHTLY diffrent in 1997. But are also known as stronger.

the 97 will NOT have traction control system. But it will still limit power of a BIG burnout. Not something you need to worry about

1997's has a rack and pinion problem, But it has a recall.


I'm going to guess the ones that say "hold out for a 98 have never owned a 1997 and are just listening to what other people that have also not owned a 1997 say about them

I have has 5 97's 2 gt's 3 gtp's my green 97 gtp i drove for over 100k miles. it has 247k miles on the transmission. and was put in my 1999 be for i sold it.

There is no reason why a 97 wouldn't be as good as any other year... The main issue is when you heavily mod them... And big whoop if it doesn't have traction control

i had a 3.25 pulley and all supporting mods. the only problem i ran in to was for the CAI "wiz-air" intake to fit i needed to get a 99 coolant bottle.

the alternator mount on the 1997 is a better design.. it only has one plastic elbo, unlike 2 on the 1999-2003's

And when you get heavly modded t/c does no good. just kills the power.

I'm not looking to seriously mod this, I might just look for a newer one. But if I like this one, I'll deal with the lack of TC.

the Tc on the 98-02 Cars are a pretty good joke. they just kill the power. thats it.
