View Full Version : strut replacement?
does anyone have any tips on replacing their struts? I bought KYB's for all four corners and I never replaced them myself before. thanks
so, how do i get ahold of those GM tools from those tools at GM? Can i get them from someplace else? In Canada? Thanks

I hired a shop to do the work, and they bought the tools, fortunately, they used them again, as I was talkin' to the owner.
before I decided to get them done professionally, I priced the tools out. I think overall it was almost 400 dollars worth of tools, hence why I opted out. ;)
from what i see, i would need 5 "tools":

u only need the "w-body strut cartrigde replacment tool" for the front, they say you need all thhis other shit but you don't. and any auto parts store around you that rents tools should have it
now my 1991 GM Lumina Service Manual says i only need:
No.50 torx bit
i found one tool for cheap?
thats all i can find though
here is a pic of the tools

J 35671 is the only one you really need. Try the loan a tool program at Canadian tire they may have it. no special tools are required for the rear.
Like I mentioned earlier the rear AC delco struts come with the mounts attached for about a hundred bucks cdn. What you spend extra you save on the install and get new mounts to boot.
i don't know what GM or Chilton is smoking, but there is no #50 torx bit involved here. The struts i have on now are 1/4hex and the KYB's are metric #6hex!?
