Well, I took the plunge, and decided to try out Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil in my 89 Supreme 2.8L, and lets just say "so far, so great". The engine seems to run cooler, sounds a little better, and I actually get a little higher oil pressure. There's also no leaks whatsoever. It probably helps that I've had almost every engine gasket replaced!
Just lettin' you all know...so far, Synthetic is sweet....

Worth every penny regardless. I wanted to tell you to "hurry the hell up and do it already!!!" , and I'm glad you tied it with success, I wouldn't run anything else :D - Tom

I agree with Tom. Synthetic is the only way to go nowadays. Expensive, but well worth the money. The only time I would use conventional is if it's some piece of sh*t beater that I don't really care all that much for. Unfortunately, both my vehicles mean a lot to me so I maintain them with synthetics.

I've always had great luck with Valvoline and Lucas Oil Additive. The Lucas help keep eveything lubricated from top to bottom. This keeps all the bearings lubricated during engine startup. I have over 300,000 on my 2.8L and still runs great. I may try synthetics when I'm finished building my 3.1L I highly believe in the synthetics but I just thought I would mention my good luck with conventional Valvoline.
