A small project I worked on today UPDATED

Well, ever since my car was broken into well over a year ago, i've been riding around with a car with no trunk lock in it. Doesn't bother me, and I don't really care. But, I have had this spare Z34 trunklid in my basement forever that I had wanted to shave the lock on.

So, today I got it about 80% complete. The black circles are where after doing plenty of sanding, a tiny bit more of filling/sanding needs to be done. Then comes the finer grits of sand paper, sand the whole trunklid, primer, sand, primer, sand, and finally paint.

I think the shaved lock does add a bit more to the security of my vehicle. I have a trunk popper by my dash, i have it on my remote start(Viper 771), and I have rear-fold down seats as well. So, if I really need to get into my trunk, it isn't hard at all. But, if a person cannot break into a certain part of a vehicle easily, they won't bother. A thief is usually in and out of a car in less than 3 minutes.

Local friend did the welding, obviously not for free.

Be sure to make sure you do plenty of sanding. If that was perminant marker make sure you get it all off before you paint it, otherwise it'll bleed through the paint.

The permanant marker is indication marks for me where I need to fill more and where I need to sand more. So, no worries on that.

Well, an update was due.

Anyways, added another layer of filler, sanded it down with heavy grit. The filling is done!! So, I went ahead and sanded the rest of the trunklid with the heavy grit. Then, I took a finer grit and went back over the shaved area. That area is smoother than the paint on my car(but I don't need it like that right now, still gotta primer/sand/primer/sand/paint), so I will go back over it with a bit heavier grit, then start the final prep before paint.
