Actually it could be a 4t60-e or a 4t65-E
Both trannies were availible according to what I have found... BUT the bottom pan of the tranny most likely will tell you.

Huh. I never knew that the 4T65-E was mated to the 3100 in 97  The pan on our 97 lumina is just blank, so i dunno what is in it now. I always figured it was a 60. THANKS ALOT!!!

the lumina being a red-headed-step-child probably got the 4t60-e.
The 97 century is a gen 2 W, and a twin of the 97+ regal.

The only cars that got the 4T65-E in 97 are L67 equipped cars.

Today I finally got off my butt and on the ground to check for numbers. I didnt find any so I just got the VIN # and called the stealership.
Turns out I got the 4T60E. I asked him which if any years got the 65E and he said the same years. I asked whats the differnece and why they would put different trannys in the same years. And of course he didnt know.

If this guy is right about 2 diff trannys in the same year. What would be the purpose and whats the difference on the two.

Thanks

4t65e will be a heavier duty tranny. I'm not sure how different it is, but I think It's virtually identical, except for a few heavier duty internal parts, from info I read... It is capable of more torque and such.
The people above seem to be correct, the 3100 motors would apparently be linked to the 4t60e, but the more powervul 3800 (w or w/o supercharger, I think) would be linked to the 4t65-e

I am pretty sure that car was only available with the 4t60e, their computer is probably wrong. However, if it was available with the 65, its probably for one with the towing package...thats the only thing I can think of.

According to Rebuilt-Auto-Transmissions Dot Com (http://rebuilt-auto-transmissions.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_main.html?catid=112&l_make2=&sid=5uJJIM1G20Wv2JG-09105054780.86), the "Sentry" got the 60-E through 99. ...

I'm not sure what the difference is, however there were 3 different trannies put in TGP's between '89 & '90. So you just have to match up the code to yours, although I think all of them will work in any of them. I know that my STE and my dads TGP both have OLAH.

No, not different gearing, they all have 3.33:1. I've looked into it a little and just don't know what the differences are. They probably made updates throughout the year and its probably not even something you would notice. It might just be a change in the valve body or something. I know its not a major change and any of them should work in a TGP regardless of if the number matches or not.
