What on earth is black death?

Black Death is when a compressor "self destructs" and sends bits of teflon throughout the A/C system. You can check it out at http://www.ackits.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=black%20death

Isn't it when crap enters the A/C (like putting in that stop leak shit) and it clogs the compressor which then dies?

It was a plague that killed everybody in Europe.

Sorry, I had to be a smart@$$. I've never heard of this happening to A/C systems until now. Sounds like it'd be a sucky thing to have to deal with. :bash:

pretty much sludge in the a/c system.

When the compressor fails, all the debris from the compressor's guts starts to circulate throught the AC system. The debris is typically a fine black powder. Thus, "Black Death".

When this happens, the only way (the right way) to fix it is to replace the compressor, replace the drier, flush/replace the evaporator, replace the condenser, replace any hose assemblies that have mufflers, flush any other hoses/lines, replace the expansion tube, add oil, evacuate and re-charge.

thus a huge PITA...that has to be very expensive to fix!
