Looks like Jay and I did the same thing over the weekend. Tires are Essenza 210 Type R in 235/45-18 size (made by Goodyear). Perfect fit! No rubbing, and not too much gap for those giant Cutlass wheel wells. A tiny bit smaller overall diameter than the 225/60-16's that were on it before.

It looks even better in person... until you get too close and see all the little white chips in the paint. :(

Can you really quickly put a pic up, or a photoshop, of the wheels off of the red Cutty onto the black one? I know you don't liek it, but I think it would look good, and I am looking for inspiration for what to do with my Fiero, and I don't liek most chrome rims.
Thanks!
GnatGoSplat
04-11-2005, 01:27 PM
I can do that later tonight, but since you want them on a Fiero, wouldn't it be better to Photoshop the wheels onto a black Fiero?

i'd put gun metal wheels on a black car or chrome
it looks good shawn even if it isn't lowered :)
i didn't even realize that it's stock height! Now all you need to do is paint the calipers either silver or black. Damn black cars with chrome look so good

doesnt someone with a white gtp have those rims. I saw them then and thought they were great. seeing them on this cutlass makes me really want to get a set now. They really make these cars look great.
yeah AWeb80 Adam has them on his car, as well as do many of us including me, Dave (dykz34) and prolly a few others i have forgotten.

Well I mainly want to see them on your Cutty, I'm not too worried about Fiero wheels yet, plus they are 100, not 114.3mm. SO just do it on your Cutty, that'll be fine.
Thanks!

Yep, painting the calipers was in the original plan. I wanted to paint the calipers gunmetal and the brackets black. Penny was anxious to see the wheels on there, so I figured I'll just paint 'em next time the brake pads need changed... which from the looks of the pads, will be sooner than I thought.

Yeah, I figured it was about time I updated that 3yr old sig.
This is for Aaron:

I definitely prefer chrome over silver on a black car.

The top has a broken linkage. It might work, but we're too chicken with that snapped linkage... don't want to snap any other linkages or get it to where it won't come back up. It's made of unobtanium so I'll have to custom fab something, but even the bracket the linkage was attached to is bent badly. A few years ago the linkage cost $300 and I didn't buy it when I had the chance. Now I can't even get it and no NOS is showing up ANYWHERE. Everything for the convertible top is long discontinued.

Sad, because those are beautiful cars.

Yeah, it's still a beautiful car as it is.
One of these days I'll see if I can weld up that linkage (it's actually broken in 2). If that doesn't work, I'll try to fabricate a new piece. Maybe with the aid of a torch I can bend that bracket back into shape... it's sure not bending back by pounding the hell out of it with a hammer!
I think someone would have an easier time finding parts for a 1936 Duesenberg than anything to do with the convertible top of a convertible Cutlass.

That Cut does look nice as hell with those Rims, where'd you get them from and if you don't mind me asking.. How much were they?

Thanks, I just had a coworker (girl) telling me it's a really hot car (I have it up as my desktop background right now). I guess I did a good job with it.
I got them from a dealer on Ebay, brand new, complete with lugnuts and chrome valve stems, for $700 shipped. If you can settle for polished, I think they were $200-250 cheaper.

so, those are the chrome ones!? as opposed to polished aluminum!?...i thought those were the polished ones

Yeah, they're chrome. The polished are a lot hazier and dull.

Are the stock 5 spokes for sale?
Lookin great though! I love tghe look.. I am with Aaron.. The Silver on the black is what does it for me.. Not a big bling fan.. But hell.. On a black vert, ANYTHING looks good!

Nah, I'm keeping the stock 5-spokes for winter. Salt, even a little bit, is pretty hard on chrome.

Shawn: The part you need.....if you can take several close-ups of exactly what you're talking about, I can keep a look out this summer. I saw LOTS of convertible Cuttys in the yard last year.

I need this linkage for the passenger side:

http://gnatgosplat.homestead.com/files/IMG_0551.jpg
http://gnatgosplat.homestead.com/files/IMG_0552.jpg
These are pics of the driver side, it's all I could find on my computer, I can take some better pics later. The passenger side is snapped in 2. The bracket it's attached to on one side is removable, but I think the other side is the entire top corner of the "C" pillar so the top material needs to be removed to be able to remove the linkage as an assembly.
If you can find one, I'd really appreciate it!

I've always wanted a totally black GTP (Tint, Headlight covers, tinted brake lights, etc).....like 96 or so....with chrome 077's.
