I just found it funny the forum blocked out 'cock' from 'cockpit'.

I dunno what my opinions are on the new style... I think its gonna have to grow on me. One thing though, WHY THE LACK OF GAUGES. C'mon GM.

I'm not sure about the new style either, I guess I'll wait until I see them in person to decide. I like the V8 though. 8)

:| looks like a civic crossed with a cobalt.

why oh why do they need to mess with perfection.

Check out the specs for that 3.9.

231CI/3791cc.

It's a damn 3.7, or 3.8 if you round up. I suppose it's easier to sell the engine if they say "But it's bigger than the 3.8!"

Am I the only one that likes the new style? Other then I think GM could have done a better job in the interior...

they are nasty on that site and even worse at the autoshow. The rims are the same for the cobalt, monte ss, and impala ss. WTF? I don't like the direction chev is going with the more rounded look as opposed to the sharp lines on the caddys. Later Jay

I actually like the front end of the old ones better, and I didn't like the front end of the 00+ Monte at all.

The interior looks nice though, and that V8 I gotta get for a swap.

I think it looks pretty good.. The interior is pretty bland though... but most all of GM's interiors are that way now. The lack of gauges is the biggest complaint I have, for a performance model you'd think they'd change the cluster some.

Im really digging the new style, ive seen alot of people who are screaming about how crappy it looks and that it is crossed with this or that. If I were to say it was any type of cross it would bea 5th gen front with a 6th gen style rear and some new accents and what looks like a very nice looking interior.

Im liking it so far so much Im seriouly considering saving my pennies for an '07 becasue we all know the 1st year of a new body is riddled with problems.

I absofuckinglutely hate it.. Now I know the year range to get.. 95-05.. (Preferably 01-05 Hi-sport appearance).. Chevy tore a page from the Kia book and made a life sized Rio.. :puke: This kills me.. I am a HUGE Monte Carlo fanatic.. And this pisses me off..

EDIT: It looks to me like they're taking a step BAKWARD in airbag steering wheel design:

LOL, I noticed that too. And IIRC the 3800 is 3792cc so it's actually BIGGER than the 3900! Hahahaha

The LS4 is an awesome motor in a shitty wrapper. It'll be better once it's taken out of that packaging and put into something with a bit...err a LOT more style...

I'm thinking LS4 + 94-96 GTP = teh sexX0r.

just be happy Chevy still has a mid-size coupe. What other ones do GM offer? Seems like zero!

i think i have a pic or 2 from the autoshow i'll post later...i kinda like the new design, although to me...the front looks like the 95-99 style...dunno why they are kinda going backwords with the design a bit... :?

I like the whole damn thing! I don't see anything to bitch about, I'd take one in a heartbeat! Well....it should be RWD, but that aint gonna happen.

Maybe their idea of perfection is far from the truth. To be honest I dont think I ever liked one single FWD Monte Carlo ever.

The interior looks cheap

03-15-2005, 04:35 PM
I saw it in detriot, and the interior I think is better then all the modern GM interiors.

but I've stated my opinion on where GM is going.

The thing about this interior is the meterial, its soft, but firm, (not stiff and might give a little like the previous generation)

terryk2003
03-15-2005, 04:35 PM
well...i guess there was only 1 pic taken of the new monte... :? ...we couldnt get into the interior or anything because it was roped off...but, here's what the outside looks like:

Why didn't you just check out the impala that was next to it? Same interior basically.

I gladley reached in and carfully inspected the interior.

well, FYI: i was @ the Greater Cleveland Auto show...the cars were BOTH roped off...the impala was in front of the monte, but you couldnt get to it either...

Hey, would that 3900 swap into cars with the 3X00 series?

They are built off the same design right?

Somebody goofed. Bore and stroke are listed as 3.90 and 3.31 in inches respectively, or 99 by 84 millimeters, so it's 237ci/3880cc. Do the math.

Well at least the 3800 is finally gone... as with the 3100 and 3400 they were putting in the damn things. the 3500 even looks respectable with near 300ft/lbs of torque!
As for the design... well I guess they HAD to mess around with it, right?

RacerX
03-15-2005, 07:06 PM
Only 220 lbs.ft. of torque for the 3500. You read the Metric Nm rating.

the 3900 should technically mount into a w-body however you have to deal with the electronic throttle body and electronic powersteering

you either have alot of wiring or some serious computer tuning todo.

Yeah I noticed the misprint of the size of the 3900, the second poster is right, a little math shows the reals displacemnt which is damn near 3.9.

not to mention 240hp/245tq, thats as much power as an l67 with only .1 more literes. Thats a 60v6 design for you.

Personally Id love an SS

And it does this on 87 octane. A good thing with rising fuel prices.

looks as if the instrument cluster and guages went back a couple years...otherwise they look alright.

about f-ing time for the V8.

now that 3.9L, is that going to be the same as the 3.9L VVT as in the G6? holy hell...240HP

yeap, same engine, I noticed in the spec sheet that VVT was not listed as a feature, I dont know if thats a mistake or if they are leaving VVT out on the MC. It would be possible to have 2 sligtly different versions of the engine, but Im not sure why they would do such a thing.

the 3.9 is supposedly based of GM's GEN III platforms. similar block design.

that info came straight from GM.

We wait 6 years to get a "WTF" design from GM, & they wonder why sales are falling. My feelings are hurt by that front clip...

in the photochop, it looks like a lexus to me.

good job on the photoshop btw.

I think the problem is the grill.

I like a clean, smooth look so I'm not a big fan of the creases. 90's Lexus's had squintier headlights, but all the current ones have big giant googly lights like the Monte does. It's the style of the day.

I would like the grille if the car had squinty headlights like my photochop.

My taste is just old-school 90's. I like 90's short squinty headlights. I don't like today's super tall headlights. Maybe it's because I'm Asian and people say we have squinty eyes so I can identify better with squinty-eyed cars. :)

LOL

As for the design, I think thier aspect is to, and I quote, "improve" upon what they already have.

Porsche/BMW/Mercedes and so on, have always had this mentality, thus the reason for not changing the modles radically. They just keep improving small "problems" in past generations. You don't make progress by completely redesigning a modle every 5 years.

GM has me worried with all these new platforms coming out. It could be a good thing, it could be a bad thing, but who knows, GM sounds like its on peril.
