Chicago Suburbs Mini-meet: Saturday March 19th

Ok. This is just a little get together for us local suburb guys (though anyone is invited if they can make it). We discussed this a bit in the other thread, but I thought I'd start an official one for the mini "pre-meet". Don't worry about clean cars, having a place to gather, do photos, etc. We're just going to meet somewhere to grab some food, and shoot the breeze/meet some local fellow members. We'll leave the larger gathering of NW IL people for April, or whenever that's being planned for. I can pretty much do any weekend, because I was just thinking, even IF I'm working, I'm off by 5 on Saturdays. So, anything in the 7 - 8ish timeframe is cool by me. So, since me and 93Regal said we can do any weekend, I'll put us down first. I'll add the date as we get a better idea of when the majority can come out.

Also tell your boss it's all good on the 4500 stall TH400 converter but i will have to wait till tues or wed before i get paid for the work i did this weekend up in WI.

You guys from Chicago that know the area better should pick the place. It would be nice though, if it was on the south side of Chicago near the freeway so its easier for us MI guys to get too. I plan on being there where ever it is though!

EDIT: Grant park is a cool place and is not too hard to get to (I don't think). Maybe we could meet there?

Turbo: What's up, James? No problem on the money for the converter. If you want, you can just bring it with to the meet on the 19th, and we'll do the exchange there. Hope you have that thing ready by then. :shock: Would be very cool to see everything off your Cardomain page in person!!

TeeJay: Most of us are from suburbs of Chicago, anywhere from 20 - 40 minutes away from it. I personally don't dwell in "the city" too much. Too many people, and with my road rage, it's DEFINITELY not the place to be if you don't want to get into a confrontation REAL quick.

So here's what I was thinking. Fuddruckers on Finley (close to the Butterfield intersection) in Downers Grove. It's where the IL GP club met the last 2 years in a row for their annual meeting. Good food, not SUPER expensive, and I believe they have beer for those older, too. *nudges James* There's a half way decent sized parking lot in the back to just shoot the breeze/check out each others cars. You can get to it off of 355, so pretty easy access, too. Fun for all! I'll bring the accordion! :shock:

Sounds good to me. Have a question though. how many tolls are there between where 355 splits off of 290 and Downers Grove? I know there's a $1 toll at Army Trail Rd, but not sure after that.

Well today, Al and I finished welding in the filal shofter cable brackets and ran a permanent throttle cable (progressive) was looking real good when we went to hook up the battery and........its dead. at this time it was really cold so we finished cleaning up and are hoping to at least get a clip of video tuesday evening....hopefully, we have to look at a couple of vehicles for As brother, maybe the tape will be under 500w Halogen lights lol

the 19th is looking good for me and Al today (wed) we will be finishing up the permanent throttle cable install and a couple other things.
We will have video today!!!!!! we were going to video last night but the neigbor has called the cops on us twice already (wasnt even past the 10 oclock quiet time even). looks like we might just take the plates from his lumina daily driver and slap them on for the drive to fudruckers! that would save the hasle of towing her down! but if Al pulls some bonehead stunt with that plate on her we're screwed if the fuzz are around (still NO exhaust on the rear 3800!) Al is still trying to get that day off but if he does work he gets off at 4pm and i will have already loaded the car on the trailer etc, however it works out, looks like we will be there!

Sounds good fer me and Al! looks like we will be towing the 442 down! Got Video of the 442 today with both engines running just need to host it somewhere for free.
Al is still working on getting off work earlyier than 4pm.
I will already have the 442 loaded up so we will be able to just hop in and go!

Weather for us coming from MI looks a little worse, but still not too bad. They are talking about a rain/snow mix, so hopefully the roads will be okay.

me and Al plan on working on the 442 on friday night at Harry's (gotta repack the wheel bearings on the trailer) as well as checking stuff out on the 442, on the harry's lifts! we wil have it loaded up that night to be ready when Al gets off work at 4pm-we are hoping he can get off work early! I will call you RareGM when we are on the way!! :D sounds good ALL! we will be bringing our digital8 camera for footage/stills!! if there's a nice empty lot nearby we can demonstrate the 442!

Al - That car is looking damn good! All the glitches worked out (I thought I heard Al say it keeps dying)? Yeah, as Matt said, finding empty space around there might be a problem. This is an extremely busy shopping area we're going to be in (couple mile stretch of strip malls, free standing restaurants and stores, etc). I don't recall for certain, but I highly doubt there is an area near there that will be empty enough to perform a sample of what the 442 is capable of. At least, no where where one wouldn't be arrested on the spot and have the car impounded. :shock:

I asked my boss to get me the converter so we can exchange it at the meet. So far he's forgot, but if worse comes to worse, I'll snag it myself Saturday.

James - The back of the restaurant has a pretty good sized parking lot, if I recall correctly. The only thing I'm worried about is it filling up quickly on a Saturday. Most places around here aren't going to be too keen on leaving vehicles unattended (especially if they see you unloading a vehicle off it). We may have to wing it as to where we're going to put it. But yeah, the car will definitely be worth a look, finished or not.

I didn't go in to work today. I started feeling sick yesterday while at work, and got hit pretty hard by this morning. Hopefully it will subside by tomorrow (been sleeping most of the day today), but right now, every single bone, muscle, and joint in my body is killing me, and I'm pretty sure I'll finally cough up a lung before the night is through. I think it's a relapse of the sinus infection I had earlier this year. We'll see what happens. I'll have a better idea by tomorrow.

I was going to grab your converter today (my boss finally snagged it from the old place Wednesday), but obviously that wasn't possible since I didn't go to work. I'll try and pick it up tomorrow before I come down to the meet.

even met a guy, who just overhead this group of people standing around the trunk of the 442--talking about twin engines!, he just came up to the car and couldnt belive it...his wife was taking pics with her camera phone to show her husbands friends what they had just seen, he was a nice guy--couldn't belive that someone put twin V6's in a cutlass. you shoulda seen his eyes when he saw the rear 3800.... :shock: :shock:

It was a blast me and Al enjoyed it! even with the cost of gas for a 68 ford F250...i think we got like 6 mpg LOL :cry:
but it was worth it! we got to chat with fellow W-body freaks and got a couple ideas fer the 442.....

I think the most popular saying was "F@#king unreal!"

a real nice 5 spd 3.4DOHC was the only other cutlass, real nice condition man! it's a nice car-makes us wonder if we could pull off two 5 spd manual tranny's!!! :twisted:

an STE turbocharged3.1 that makes us wish we had the turbo on the 3800 already!

all around nice cars! a GTP with a new 3 inch dwnpipe and cat---in the back seat.... :wink:

Yes indeed, it was a great time. As I mentioned, I was feeling very under the weather today (no pun intended with the actual weather :shock: ), but much like Michael Jordan when he had the stomach flu/food poisoning during the finals, I felt it was my duty to be there since I put this shin-dig together. I'd like to thank everyone that came out for the meet. I enjoyed everyone's company, and it certainly made me feel better for pressing on under the circumstances. Special thanks to James and Al for bringing out "the beast", and giving us a little taste of the power! :wink: Too bad the weather didn't allow for more, but the madness has only just begun. I loved how people parking were wondering why we're all in awe with and taking pictures of an open trunk. Priceless! Also, special thanks to 93RegalGS for making the trek from Wisconsin. :shock: Very nice car! BrianG & Shaferz: Good seeing you guys again, thanks for bringing out the rides. And thanks to the new guy, rich17, for taking some time out from work to meet up with us. I want a remote starter!!

I am working on editing it now....reduce it to the cool stuff, it really sux we dont have video of when Al spun the 442 out...just by nailing the gas pedal! :shock:

The Meet was a Blast. Was nice meeting you guys. The drive for me really wasn't that bad at all. It endedup being only 5 minutes longer than my normal drive. I hope at the next meet the weather will be better.

I want your front seats RareGMFan!!! lol. the power recliner is awsome. hope you get yout IAC problem fiexed soon.

And the 442. DAMN!!!!!! That was awsome. I didn't get a vid of when it spun out either. Very nice work!
