I'd be up for one anywhere greater "Michiana" area. Maybe in NE Illinois, northern Indiana, or SW Michigan.

Are you talking about Woodfield Mall?

2-2.5 hours isn't too bad of a drive for you MI guys.

no i was thinking of the Geneva Commons, but Woodfield might be better.

BUT I found an awesome!! park we could go to. Its called "Raceway Woods" and it was originally called Meadowdale Int'l Raceway back in the late 50s-late 60s. Its now a forest preserve, but the track is massive!!! 3.27 mile roadcourse, with over a mile long straightaway.

heres the link http://www.meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com/

this would be a completely awesome place to go see!!!

Its about a 3.5 hours drive to Chicago from my house. I'd be up for anything in the 2-2.5 hour range.

That race track sounds like a really cool place to meet. Would we actually get to take our cars out on it? Either way it sounds fun!

99RegalGS
02-06-2005, 04:51 PM
That track looks like a cool place to go. would probably be best to bring a bike or something.

Tim, You shold look at the pics of the track.

Euro
02-06-2005, 10:00 PM
I think some people have tried and succeeded on getting their cars on the track, but most of the track is too rough to bring our cars on. Plus on that 1 mile+ straight theres a pond that made its way onto the track. I think if you had the balls and/or a 4x4 you could make it.

im up for the old track, but it might be a little far for most of us. Maybe we could meet somewhere and then caravan to it?

99RegalGS
02-06-2005, 11:06 PM
The sounds like a good idea. So where would you want to meet then?

Woodfield Mall is about 1.5 hours away for me.

Euro
02-06-2005, 11:23 PM
probably a place close enough for the out-of-state guys to come, but not too far for the rest of us.

One of these day's ill drive up to the park and see how nice of a place it is to park and whatnot.

How about March sometime?

EurosportZ34

March!!!1!!1!

i don't know about you but there is usually still ALOT of snow yet in March.....April/May would work out best for an 'early' meet

...also, i won't be able to attend if my Lumina isn't painted...

That would probably work best. Time to plan everything out, and give everyone an oppurtunity to make appropriate arrangements. In the meantime, what about just a weekend to meet up and maybe go out and eat for us more local guys?

That sounds like a great Idea. I'm open most weekends, so shouldn't be too much of a problem for me. Have any locations for a mini meet? Somewhere kinda in the middle? Personally I'd prefer something north of I-90. but I'll go as far south as I-88.

We're in the process of moving my work place to Villa Park right now, so the schedule has been nothing less then psychotic. The actual move takes place this weekend, so hopefully after a week or two, things will settle down, and I'll help plan something out. How many people are willing to come out this way?

By the way....is there any cheap storage around here? I have a TON of parts I was keeping at work that won't have a home any more. If I can avoid the rip off rates of Public Storage and the likes, that would be great. But if need be, so be it.

Hey guys just started posting on the wbody forums do most of mine on the TGP forums. I live kinda close to the Chicago area about an hour away. I'm up for anything meeting up anytime. The TGP won't be back out on the road till spring though. RareGMFan you've seen the car before. Now its got duals ran to the back instead of just cut off with no mufflers and it won't be smoking anymore thanks to the new turbo. Let me know whats up guys.

Welcome, McLaren.

Guys, lets get a date set for our mini-meet. This weekend is prolly too short notice and the next two I will be in Florida for spring break. Does the weekend after that work for anybody? (March 12-13)

Euro
02-17-2005, 11:00 PM
so this mini-meet is just a few of us gathering for a bite to eat?? or is it gonna be the whole sha-bang?? I thought the big Illinois meet is gonna be in April sometime.

Damn March 12-13 is gonna be a hella weekend if we have this mini meet. How bout that Saturday(March 12)?? cause the 13th is the Chevy Vettefest :D

RareGMFan
02-17-2005, 11:03 PM
What's up, Bryan? Glad you decided to keep the TGP and it's back in running shape. :D

March 12th is the date I believe the boss decided to do the big grand opening sale for our relocation of the store, so I don't know how well that will work out. I have to get my schedule to see what's going on after that. Should probably know by early next week.

Me and some friends are going up to Shark City (http://www.sharkcity.com/bands.htm) in Glendale Heights to see a Tool cover band on the 26th (next weekend). I found out about them because I ran into one of my customers at a Tool concert. We were talking for a bit, and he happened to mention that he's the drummer for Ænema. Been meaning to see them for a year (they only play once or twice a month), but I finally saw them last month, and they're actually very good. Something to keep in mind if anyone is interested in meeting up there (by the way, it's 21 & over).

Shu90RMcLaren

are you talkin the ""Ultimate"" MM meet?? there was like 35 cars there....honestly, i wasnt really thrilled with that one. I like the W-body ones alot better, all everyone cared about at the MM meet was racing.

I think that MM members and W members for the most part keep with their groups. Except for a few that are on here often. cause any W meet 0 MM people show up, and i was the only W member who showed up for the Ultimate meet last year(except for Sonyman, manitcor, etc)
so i wouldnt bother

I'll get my schedule for March at the beginning of next week, so we'll plan something from there.

By the way....you wouldn't happen to know anyone with a good sized pick up truck I could borrow for a few hours Sunday by chance? I have to move aaaaaall my car parts (and the TGP) out of the old place my job was at, and into a Public Storage space. I haven't had time to reserve a pick-up with my messed up schedule. Oh, and an engine hoist wouldn't hurt, either.

Ooooo an IL meet! I am in Hangover Park (irving park and barrington rd) and Al and his 94 442 are in Palatine (53 and Lake Cook) for a big meet i dont know if the 442 will be done (maybe 90% by late March/early april) besides we need to re register it lol but we'd travel about 1-2 hrs, have a couple beers etc.
just fer clarification how many of us would be up fer a bar after the meet? (over 21) or cruise to a close house and have a few even with the under 21ers?
almost any weekend is good fer me, maybe we could all me at a u-pick-a-part? lol, sorry the redneck in me getting out lol.

BTW rareGMfan I have a 68 F250 longbed (390FE/4spd) if it's usefull, i gotta unload the Dana60 and other parts that i brought out from SoCal but then the bed would be empty, i can borrow Al's engine hoist from his joint in Palatine, and if i talk with my old boss at harry's on Rand (near 53/LakeCook/rand--4 doors down from Dancers (stripclub)) I could borrow (again!) the Car trailer (has a hand winch, ramps) too but i would need to know to ask him, If you pay gas i'm down with it, my buddy will be over either sat night or so so we can plasma cut sumthing of my 86 f150 Frankentruck for the Nova, but if he dont come over on sun it's all good.... :D
let me know K? schlimthecarguy@comcast.net (BTW i live on Yorkshire 2 streets N of Irving park rd on Barrington-be cool to hang out with a fellow gearhead! will work for beer/food/gas

I think we should start off by finding a good place for a meet. Maybe a park somewhere. I would look but it's a bit out of the way for me.

Euro
03-23-2005, 10:42 PM
yeah finding a place would be the first on the list. I will still check out that Meadowdale Speedway park if anyones interested in coming out that way.

Turbocharged400sbc
03-23-2005, 11:21 PM
yeah there's always Byron Dragway, DaGrove Dragway in wis, rt 66 dragway in joliet....hopefully at a racetrack, but i guess if we just find someplace we can have just as much fun in the 442!

meadowdale does sound good...it's that closed down roadcourse right?
that sounds great!

lets get crackin on this....

Euro
03-29-2005, 10:38 AM
so yeah its almost april. and the sooner the date gets finalized the better(so i can actually come this time ). Ive found a couple neat places to meet..

1. that Meadowdale raceway now turned forest preserve

2. a park/baseballfield/basketball field/football field owned by the park district of my town. Its kinda out of the way of stores...but major malls are like 5 minutes away from it. I drive past it everyday to school.

99RegalGS
03-29-2005, 11:22 AM
I kinda like the idea of meeting at that race track. give us something to do..

Turbocharged400sbc
03-29-2005, 01:24 PM
I dont think that you can still drive at meadowdale, of course i can get my hands on a couple of Heavy Duty Gocarts we could do some MadMax fun!

as long as there's a chance that the weather will be nice and me and Al can drive the 442 around! lets set sumthing up! where's rareGMfan? lets get going on this....unless it somehow dies.... :(

Euro
03-29-2005, 10:32 PM
yeah the old racetrack cannot be driven on...if you have the balls with a big 4x4 maybe

but yeah there's a semi-big parking lot to park the cars...and its a 3.27 mile track, so its huge...give me an ok and ill go check it out

99RegalGS

alrighty....my next day off(probably monday) i will go!!

Turbocharged400sbc
03-29-2005, 11:30 PM
dont forget to see how big the parkinglot is, or if there are any large area's or straight roads nearby so maybe we can have a little headsup race between the 442 and anyone willing....

I wonder if my buddy will let me "borrow" his golfcart....440cc snowmobile engine and lifted 8 inches to fit the 33 inch BFG Muds...we got kicked off a golfcourse after jumping all the sandtraps in it! but they said that you could use your own golfcart, and we did pay, so at least they didnt file charges LOL! it was well worth it we had a blast playing polo with a 3 wood on the first 2 holes!

anyway it looks like they at least let you ride bikes and stuff...

Euro
03-30-2005, 05:56 PM
yeah there's i think two parking lots
ones kinda small, the other i dont know. Ill definitly check it out after classes monday and let ya'll know

for a date hows maybe the 16th or 23rd sound? both saturdays

Euro
04-03-2005, 10:00 PM
Ok im going to check out the situation tomorrow and see whats up.

I got the next 3 saturdays off 16, 23, 30 so whenever saturday works best for everyone else.

The parking lot can hold about 20 cars, and its got modular bathrooms, covered picnic area, so its a good place for a meet.

Ill go up tomorrow and check it out and let ya'll know!!!

Alrighty...ill give this another free BUMP

but anyways i checked out that old racetrack yesterday and it was pretty cool. The parking lot can probably hold more than 20 cars like the website said...but its gravel. Its also part grass and gravel. but it still looks like a cool place to go to. Problem is there's no real exact address to it for all you far away guys. So we'd have to work something out.

You can see the racetrack from the road !!

Euro
04-05-2005, 10:50 PM
since the park/ex-raceway has no exact address, there is a Target located a hop, skip and a jump away from the road where the park is at(IL Rt. 31)

the target is on IL Rt. 72 like less than 30 seconds from Rt. 31 and less than 7 minutes away from the park. so that might be a good place to go. That address can be received pretty easily.

99RegalGS
04-05-2005, 11:19 PM
Sounds good, How about we plan this for the 23rd. It'll give the people more of a chance to get off.

Euro
04-05-2005, 11:48 PM
yeah thats what i was thining. I got off the 23rd and the 30th just in case we needed extra time

the address of the Target is
999 W. Main Street
West Dundee, IL 60118

here's a map of the location

The 23rd? Dammit! well me and Al have most of the interiorstuff sorted out but we need to run to the Jyard soon for a new headliner and a couple misc pieces. we got the firewall all finished and upolstered but that will all be changing because Al and I will be ordering the new 10 pt rollcage for the 94 Cutlass 442 this Friday! ARRGH! I dont know if we will be able to finish the 442 in time!

We are planning on getting all the interior and stuff done in the next month or so, instead of just focusing on Turbocharging the rear 3800. the Turbo would cost too much to make sure that it would be done for that Ultimate Monte meet in Morocco IN in July.... cheaper and more likely that we can get all the cosmetics done...

Me I'd wrather spend it on the Turbo! LOL

I will Talk to Al and see what he thinks, we are planning on getting the plates for the 442 soon with all the sidejobs ($$) we have been getting then one final alignment etc. I guess i dont really know if the 442 would be ready....

I will keep yall informed!

also, the website says that the lot, although gravel, can hold around 20 cars. When i was there i could see 20 cars fitting. theres a grassy spot near the covered eating area, maybe a couple cars could park there.

RareGMFan, are there some people who are coming from clubgp, or other forums? Because the way it is right now I don't see 20 cars being there.

well....Target has screwed me over yet again. I turned in my request for the 23rd off 1 f-ing day late. It has to be in 3 weeks(21 days) in advance, i turned mine in 20 days in advance. And of the ONE person who could have worked for me screwed me over and said "I dont wanna I want to have a weekend off" Well to hell with you bastard...hope you weekend is shot to hell.

So yet again, i miss out on ANOTHER IL meet this year(probably last) :cuss: :verymad: :dammit:

Wow, that sucks man. I'm sure we could have another meet later on in the summer or figure something out..

OK...I was already thinking this, but now it might really be for the best. What if we postpone this a while? I know several people that are interested in coming, but can't make it on the 23rd. Plus....I don't know about this location, and not just the parking thing (and I don't know if we ourselves will get 20 cars, but...won't there be other patrons there taking up spots, especially on a weekend?). I was thinking, the park we held the Chicago Grand Prix Club meeting last summer was pretty cool. I *believe* it was in Mundelien, but will have to check with Wendy to make sure of that. They had picnic tables as well, under shade, and had grills there already. Just have to bring some charcoal, lighter fluid and food. There's also PLENTY of parking (we had probably a good 20+ cars there, and tons of spots leftover. Something to think about.

More time off means James and Al have a bit more time to prepare the 442, Gus from the CGPC (with the mint 200K+ mile GTP  ) will hopefully be done with his engine work, and will join us, I'll be able to fix the damn power steering fluid leak & psychotic idling issues, those that couldn't get off will have an oppurtunity to put in for a day, etc. May be worth doing, since we don't got that big of a list going, yet. I haven't seen a response from Brian G or Shaferz yet, either.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking that too.. Seemed like there wasn't as much responce now than what there was for the mini-meet.

Yes....a plan to make a plan!!

Sean, you may want to put Postponed until further notice on the thread subject. I'm working on the plans as we speak, getting details about the Reserve. My only problem is going to be my scheduling. After the 23rd, I work 4 out of the next 6 Saturdays, with the 7th of May being the first day off. Too soon. The other one is the 21st of May. That would give everyone over a month to arange time off. My sis will be out of school by then, too, so she can come with, which she really wants to (it's not too often there's a gathering for cars of our generation, with people that actually have knowledge about them). I'm not positive on this date yet, but I wanted to get a feel for how this would work for everyone. If it's a no-go, I'll put everything together, and then we can decide on a date in June. This is all still in the early parts of planning, and is very tentative, so let's just get a feel for it.
