brake light

I'm sure I'm asking a question that has been asked a million times by now, but here I go anyway... The brakelight (not the ABS) stays on indefinately and I can here what I believe to be the master cylinder staying on.... I'm not sure though because I'm in no way an expert on brakes. My brakes still do work normally, but maybe not for much longer with my luck :) Anyway, there is my problem. I'm asking for some possible reasons for the light staying on.

I hear the Power Master III is no longer being produced and quite expensive. Am I right on that?
