Wheel stud input needed...help

I recently bought rims for my GP and i want longer studs. With the current ones i only get 5 turns with the 5/16" spacer. The problem im having is with the Knurl. Stock Knurl diameter is .493". ARP sells studs which have a .486 Knurl. Is this going to be able to work? I cant see .007" making a huge difference. thanks

Ive done that exact thing to my 89 Olds Cutlass, I can give you the Doorman wheel stud part number that I used if your interested. The studs I used are 1/2 in longer than stock and I used a 7/16 wheel spaces. If you want the Doorman number I can dig it up for you.

Doorman, Ive never heard of them. Another reason i was looking at the ARP ones is becasue they exceed grd8 spec. They are rated at like 190,000psi. I wanted them stronger since they are holding extra weight (well its technically not 'extra' weight, but the weight is at a farther point on the stud so its like the same thing) Could i still use the ARP ones even though they are .007" thinner in diameter or no? In any event however, if you can dig up those P/Ns id really appreciate it! :D

The Doorman number I used is 610-323 you can get them at Carquest Auto Parts, thats where I work and did the research. The size is 12mm-1.5X54mm. These are about 1/2 inch longer than stock and I used a 7/16 wheel spacer so I actually have a little more thread than the stock setup. They hold great and I havent had a problem. My 3-Star rims look great and I'm happy!

What brand and model 3-star rims did you get?

Have you had any problems with snapping studs or anything? I was thinking the studs would need to be stornger since the rims are further out on them with the weight of our cars. And how much did they all cost?

Hold up, so the Camaro studs are the same size as ours?!?! Which part of that is the Knurl diameter?

I have Prime 141 15x7 polished rims, there sweet! There also discontinued. I bought the last four in existance, I had to get three from Florida and one from Cali. The studs and spacers didnt cost me that much since I work for Carquest =) I have had no problem at all with them. My wheels are only 7/16 of an inch farther out so it isnt enough to make a difference. I had some deep dish 15x10 inch three star rims on at one point that stuck out past my fenders about 5 inches and I never had a problem.

So you put a 7/16" spacer on stock studs and havent had a problem? How does your rim even sit on the stud? With my 5/16" one, i only get 5 turns, so what are you getting,3?

No I used these Doorman studs that are 1/2 inch longer than stock

:?: I wouldn't mind upgrading my wheels to 17' also. I don't know what the heck a knurl is or how these wheel spacers work. Can someone edukate me please...I have looked at what wheels are available for a 93 GP but some of the ones I liked the best didn't fit my model. Is there a way around that? TX.

The knurl is the part of the stud that goes into the hub assembly. The wheel spacers just go inbetween the rim and hub. Theres plenty of rims out there that will fit our GPs, ya just gotta look hard.

well the knurl diameter on the rp ones i've talked about is .509
summit says they work on late gms..i dunno what they mean by that

arp also sells these ones
GM, late drum brake 3-1/4" 7/16-20 0.486 100-7701
knurl is 0.486
but i dunno 7/16"<> 12mm

i got the longest studs that Advanced auto parts could get and a set of 5/16" spacer and they work great.

on that doorman measurement of 12mm 1.5x55mm, what are each of those measurements representing? I have a meaurement from the dealer and its 12mm 1.5x42.2mm. Is the 42.2 and the 55mm the length? Thanks for any help. And also, how much were they? Thanks again

12mm is the diam. of the stud, 1.5mm is distance between threads and the 55 mm is stud length.

***Please, I just posted a request for that exact information. If you still have it available might I have it? I have never had a problem at all but would feel a lot safer if I had that extra 1/2" of threads inside the lug nuts...
