Q12. What performance increase can I expect from aftermarket spark plug wires?
A12. None. ZZ Peformance had an article of mods you don't need. This was one of them: Unless you have a problem with your stock wires, don't buy aftermarket ones. In our experience of working on GPs the failure rate of aftermarket wires is over 10 times that of stock wires. GM puts everything they have into making cars get the best mileage they can with the least amount of problems. A poor ignition system would increase emissions, which GM couldn't afford. This means plug wires from the factory are designed for high spark, low radio noise and excellent performance. All of the ZZP cars run stock wires.

I won't ever buy aftermarket wires for a GM car ever again. On my blazer, when one of my aftermarket wires went after 15,000 miles, I pulled a 110,000 mile original wire off the shelf and it has performed flawlessly ever since.

magnecor wires last longer than gm wires...period. They cost more but if you plan to have the car for years its worth it. Its nice to eliminate the wires if you develop a miss in the future. Also, their service is excellent. I just emailed them because one of my wires has a cut in it (dunno why, probably from uninstall or when i pulled the motor). 10-20 bucks to get it replaced. This is the same set I got 68k miles ago 6 years ago.
Wish i could afford a set now for my 3.4 but it will have to wait.

I don't think you can prove that. Like i say...my blazer has OE GM wires that have over 120,000 miles on them. I would like to think my '88 Cutlass still had its original wires on it at 197,000 miles...I know they were very used and were the same ones it had on it at purchase (157,000 miles)
I have no personal experience with Magnacore, but I do truly believe that the OE GM wires are of Extremely high quality.

lol i'd like to see you disprove it. until you have experience with them don't knock 'em. that's not to say GM OEM wires are bad of course, and i agree *most* aftermarket wires absolutely suck compared to GM OEM wires.
Magnecore wires kick ass, i have them on my GTS and i love them. my brother has had them on his Turbo Dodges and they have been great. i need to look into a set for my TGP engine soon.

94Cutlass - You're comparing apples to oranges. Of course cheap-o Autozone/Pep Boys/etc. wires are crap. But you can't compare those to performance companies, like MSD, or Magnecor. They're in a completely different catagory. If you're looking for flat out OE replacements, nothing beats the GM Delcos. But if you are looking for performance (granted, they won't do much, as mentioned above), then there ARE better wires.
What kind of prices are we talking, here?

$135? thats a lot of money depending on what size you're talking about. you can get them through apexperformance.net or ultrarev.com for $92-96 plus shipping for 8mm for 96 DOHC

Too rich for my blood for just wires. I'll stick with my MSD 8mm Heli-Cores for $60 shipped.

I'd imagine he's referring to the 8.5 mm ones. Dunno if that's what you bought.
