I am so confused :?
I went out cruising tonight and had the chance to race a Monte Carlo, I have no idea what year it was all I know is it had checker flag stripes over all wheel wells and said Monte Carlo SS special edition on the rear below the pass tail light.
Does anyone know what year this is and/or what motor it has in it ???
Anyhow we both pulled onto a secondary highway in a 80km zone and doofus floors it. So I kicked on the radar detector and scanner and chased 'em down. Up to 120kmh I gained about 2 car lengths and at 175kmh we were side by side. I figured I proved my point by catching him after he liberated a 4-5 car lead and I caught him with not much effort. Then this guys goes ricer on me....swerves at me and passes FOUR cars in oncoming traffic on a double solid line. Continues to weave in and out of oncoming traffic ( I had long since dropped back down to 100kmh the posted limit) and about 3 km ahead of me I see him still bee boppin in and out between cars and cutting people off.
After the BLASTING session I endured when I first came to the W-site about how pityful my car was I really hope this knob had a 3800 non S/C in that thing. Now that I've had the throttlebody honed and the new fuel/air regulator put in I notice some good bottom end gains ( can get rubber off the line now lol) but still am hung up on you guys telling me that a 3.1 auto would stomp my car. No joke I realed this idiot in like he was in a CRX. Can someone tell me what the specs might be on that car??
Just curious so I know if I can spank the next one I meet too.

I'm guessing it was an 80's G-body. Was it boxy looking?

No, it was exactly the same body style as the Earnhart Ed but with checker flag stripes on it. The ones with the severly homely tail light and big ribs over the front wheel wells.
I tried to research it a little but couldn't find any with that stripe set on it. I have seen quite a few like this one but they didn't say SS Special Ed on them just monte carlo. This one had the Monte Carlo SS on the lower rocker behind the doors also but didn't say special ed just monte Car SS

Probably just the Pace Car edition Monte SS. L36 engine, it was just an appearance package.

what car do you have? and im guessing you raced a 3800 or possibly 3400(engine does NOT always get boosted for these special edition cars ya know) if you did race an 80's g body it probably had a 305 with 170-190 hp and 255-280 i believe lb./ft of torque. 3800 = 200/225 and 3400 = 180/210.

DEFINATELY was NOT a 80's car. It is a 2001 Monte Carlo SS with some "sport" appearance package. It runs a 3400 motor with a cut air box and a goof driver. Not an L-67 or an LQ1 and he appologised for being such a dick, he was trying to save face because his friend was in the pass seat and he was out showing him how "fast" his car was.
I guess he thought being half raped by a guy with 2 car seats in the back was a little much for him.
As for what I drive ....its a 93 gutless with 6cyl and about 110hp i think. No dyno so I think thats a fair guess bases on the regulars specs. It's a 3.4 dohc cam but the guys tell me its a POS cause it doesn't have a 3.8S/C ( only fast motor in the w-bodies apparently) I have a CAI, underdrive pulley and a 2.5" custom mandrel bent exhaust into true equal split duals with stainless tubes. Mines a hunk of crap but even he said I kicked his ass.

Dude.... you should take the time to read before ya spout off. IT HAD A 3400 WITH A CUT AIR BOX. In case you missed it in the previous post. But thanks for the update on the 3.1, never would have gotten that info otherwise

I've actually chatted with this guy a few times since then. We tried it again from a dead stop too. He had me clean off the line and most of the way through first, at about 65k i caught back up and by 120 he was about 1.5 car lengths back. Do those cars have the 4T60-e??? Wondering because he said he had the tranny re-done about 15000k ago and he said he lost about 1-1.5 sec off his 1/4 mile time ever since. I took it for a rip ( as he did mine) and it's almost like soon as second gear engages someones holding the rear end. I can't say 'cause I never drove it before the tranny but he said himself the mine plants ya and heaves the front end up when it kicks to second and his even before the work never did that.

the 110hp I quoted is the info I got from the experts on this board. I was told by a few that their 3.1 cars would kick the fuck out of my car. Based on that (as stated above) 110hp is about right based on the info i was givin. If it's more than that....goodie for me.....but until then I stand by the 110 I was quoted by people who have been on this board longer than either of us.

yeah thats what i was sayin
all i could guess is the Monte Carlo SS Sport Apperance package, but all the ones ive seen never had "Special Edition" on the lower panels. But they shouldnt have the 3400. Im almost certain it had the L36. Unless it was a dealer installed package with a non SS monte

I can't make it any clearer, I MEANT 110hp not 210.
When I first came on this board I thought I had 200+hp but was quickly corrected and told that my car could not have anything more than a poorly tuned 3.1. (several guys with the 3.1 informed that their cars were faster, nicer, and all around better than mine could ever be).
So again I say, until I have a dyno sheet, time coded video, 2 witnesses swearing that it was my car on the dyno, a signed affidavit from the mechanic and a note from my mom to prove it, I STILL SAY ABOUT 110HP TOPS.
Actually, I bought a short ram CAI and added an underdrive and mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust from the downpipe to the duals (had them rebuild it to be true duals ) so maybe 113HP. But I'm sure most would dispute the 3hp gain from those mods. Apparently the only way to go fast in a w-body is to drive a Gran Prix with the L-67. MANY tell me thats the only fast motor EVER put in our cars.

I kind of thought that this was clear but I'll try again. My car is a 1993 CS SL with the 3.4Liter DOHC motor that was factory rebuilt (do to a cracked piston) just under 50000km ago. It's a 4 door with a T460-E tranny rebuilt with the B&M shift kit for the T460-E.
I hope this clears your confusion.
I also found a wrecked (rear ended) CS coupe with the 3.4 and 5-speed in it for real cheap ($200) but I better just wait and put the L-67 in my car, a stick would be nice but I'd still be pushing that LQ-1 and thats just .....well.....substandard for real w-body enthusiasts.

just my opinion, but i'd stick with the 3.4 DOHC, ecspecially if you can get a 5-speed swapped in there on the cheap. fwiw, the 3.4 DOHC is factory rated at 210hp (crank); not sure what they put down at the wheels but i would guess it's alot more than 110hp. L67s are nice too but that would be alot of work and money getting that thing in there.
